Finally, it was time for the lobster dinner. Devin was vegetarian, which I told mom beforehand. Steven, Jere, and Conrad were all on one side of the table, as well as Taylor, who wanted to watch me and Belly with our 'boys.' Devin was on the end of the side, I was next to him, Belly was next to me, and Cam was next to her. The moms were at the heads of the table.
Devin and I kept glancing at each other, smiling then looking away, which Jeremiah seemed to notice. He was eying us down the whole dinner with a small smirk on his face. I should've known he was gonna say something. "This is delicious," Devin said to me.
"Yeah, I'm glad you like it." I barely get the words out when Jere starts talking.
"So Devin," Jeremiah began, oh God. "I was just thinking-" But, thank God, he was interuppted.
Susannah cut him off, " I'm glad you're both here, Cam and Devin." She looked at Cam, "I know your mom, Denise from the club. I have heard a lot about you." She points at him with a finger and he goes a little read.
"Thank you so much for having me, Susannah. My mom says hi." Cam tells her, taking another bite of food.
"And Devin! I haven't seen you in forever, how's it going?" Susannah add, giving him a huge smile.
"It's going pretty good," he replied. "Thank you for having me, as well."
"Have you boys ever had miyeok-guk before?" My mom asked. "It's a Korean birthday tradition." She had two bowls in her hand, waiting for them to take it. I think this was kind of the deal breaker for her.
"No, but it looks so good, thank you," Devin said, grabbing the bowl from my mom.
"May told me you're vegetarian so I didn't put any meat in it." She adds, giving one to Cam Cameron aswell, which he thanked her for.
"Thank you, Laurel. Oh geez." Devin basically dove in, which was kind of adorble.
Jeremiah's dumb self butted in again, "Why don't you eat meat Devvy? You did as a kid." And, here we go.
"Uh, well I learned the meat industry is, like, the number one contributor to global warming. I'm usually not into that kinda stuff but I care about that." Devin shrugs and I know Jere didn't mean to but he was kind of singling him out.
"Mm." Jere nodded, lobster in hand, eating it like a barbarian.
"Just don't come for my leather jacket." Taylor smiled, easing the growing tension in the room.
"I'm pretty sure you mean pleather." I sighed, Steven is annoying but for once I was glad he made a comment, maybe it would lead the conversation away from Devin.
Taylor stuck up her finger at Steven, who laughed. Then Jere started again, "You know, uh, actually, May eats meat. So, you let her kiss you with those lips?" He's really gonna hear it tonight.
Devin shook his head in laughter. "Guys," I said, I could tell Steven and Jere were not gonna stop with this. "Stop."
"No," Devin replied. "I don't judge people for eating meat. It's just like a personal choice. I don't care." I thought that would shut Jere down, but he kept going.
"So you don't mind if, uh, like, her lips touch a dead animal and then those dead animal lips touch your lips right?" Taylor kicked him under the table. "Ow."
Devin laughed again, "I don't mind at all. Um. In fact.." Then he leaned in and pecked me right on the lips. I could feel my face go completely red. Conrad looked down at his plate. The whole table went quiet.
