Since the doom of Valeria house Targaryen had been the only family with dragons in the world. And over the centuries the number of dragons under their control had been decreasing. In each generation there were fewer and they were smaller too.
The Targaryen civil war had dramatically accelerated this trend. Wiping out three quarters of dragons and riders in a few months. Though the dance of dragons was several generations into the past its effects could still be felt.
There were now only five dragons in existence. And since the death of his father there were only two riders. Ben was one and Tori was the other, she road virimithor a formidable silver dragon that was more than a match for dark scale. Perhaps this was the only reason Ben had not attempted to take the throne.
Charlies younger brother had a dragon but it had not yet grown big enough to ride. That left his late fathers dragon and skyfury. The latter was the largest and oldest dragon in the world, said to be almost as big as Balerion or Vagar. Skyfury was one hundred and five years old. Ironically for the most powerful creature in the world he had a shy temperament, not leaving the caves of Dragonstone for decades at a time.
All the dragons currently dwelled in the dragon pit. Because the same day the king died skyfury had appeared over kings landing. Clearly a powerful omen, but nobody could agree on whether it was good or bad.
Many felt afraid when entering the dragon pit but Charlie was at ease. Despite having no dragon of his own he had a way with the beasts, a special connection that extended to all animals.
Ben was waiting for him with dark scale. Both he and his dragon seemed uneasy around each other (a betrayal of ben's inner identity conflict).
But the dragon calmed to Charlies touch. Ben seemed to soften and he ran his hand along the dragons neck. Charlie suddenly realised how close they were, ben was standing just behind him. Suddenly their hands touched!
Ben slid his palm on the top of Charlies hand pinning it against dark scale. Bens other hand touched Charlies back, traveling up his spine to rest on his shoulder. He felt the hilt of bens sword bump against his hip.
Charlie shivered, his heart beat faster. was he afraid? exited?
Suddenly Ben grabbed Charlie and lifted him up onto darkscale. It was very emasculating and Charlie was glad only the kingsgaurd and dragon keepers saw it. both groups were sworn to secrecy.
Ben swung up onto the saddle behind him his arms reaching around Charlie to grab the reins. He flicked them and dark scale leaped up into the air. Passing through what was left of the shattered and burned dome. It had once been a symbol of Targaryen power, a great dome that had covered the pit and loomed over the city.
As they climbed into the sky Charlie felt a rush of freedom. Like he had left all his anxiety's on the ground. Even the responsibility's of the throne looked small from the back of a dragon.
Charlie whooped as they dived and twisted through the air. He felt himself get pressed back into Ben. They were practically cuddling but ben didn't shy away. More than once he felt Ben's face brush against the back of his head.
Suddenly Ben snapped the reins and they landed in a clearing deep in the woods. Charlie turned round to ask why but Ben grabbed him. His strong hands against Charlies cheeks, fingers grasping at his neck.
"I've seen the way you look at me." Ben said. He was hungrily looking down at Charlie. Then they were kissing.
The two boys sat astride dark scale Charlie was in bens lap, ben kept one hand on the back of Charlies neck, the other travelled down to his waist pulling Charlie in closer. He was devouring Charlie and Charlie let himself get lost in the moment. Forgetting all the pressures of the throne.

FanfictionThis is a pretty weird and messed up fanfiction but I felt like writing it and hope you enjoy. I wonder how much of an overlap is there with the heartstopper fan base and house of the dragon?
