Love Me

Chapter Two - Outed

Iris came out as non-binary and a lesbian four years ago when they were 13, willingly. On the other hand, August wasn't so fortunate to come out when she wanted to.

August was 8 at the time and she was in year 4, primary school. Iris and Maeve were also there. August didn't have many crushes in the past, in fact there was barely any. She didn't know how to 'love' someone or what that feeling was. She felt like she was incapable of being 'loved'. During that time, a lot or if not all of the boys in her class were extremely homophobic and just complete twats. August was bullied daily and that pushed her into a depressive spiral. She just wanted it to end while the boys wanted it to last forever. She felt like she was drowning and too far down for anyone to save her. Maeve was one of the 'popular girls', everyone loved her and to them, she could do no wrong. Maeve barely spent any time with August in school but Iris always had her back and was always there for August. 

This one time, August fell in love with her classmate. This wouldn't be so abnormal if it was a guy but it wasn't. Her name was Ophelia. She had blonde hair and glistening blue eyes with rosy cheeks. She was always kind to August and always stuck up for her. August didn't know it was a crush because she didn't realise she was capable of loving someone but Iris changed her mind.

"You love Ophelia!! I mean it!" Giggled Iris.

"No!! I swear I don't! I'm not like that!" Hissed August.

"Just own up to it! It's not weird! I bet she loves you too!!" Exclaimed Iris.

The worst part of this was the fact that they weren't in somewhere private. They were in the girl's bathroom.

August has always been bullied because of her skin tone and just the way that she was so she didn't want to be picked on even more. That was her worst nightmare.

So it was horrible when Iris and August heard footsteps and giggling near them. August froze in place, what if it got out?? She didn't know what she was! She didn't even know that it was normal for two girls to love each other! 

"I swear it's probably fine" Stuttered Iris.

August started crying and Iris walked out of the bathroom. As soon as they left, they heard whispers everywhere. 

"OMG! August is gay??" 

"August loves Ophelia!"

"What a freak!"

Maeve quickly heard about all this and her heart shattered, her best friend was being bullied but she couldn't help her. She just kept quiet as this all was going on. She apologised for everything after they left primary.

Iris walked back in the bathroom and to August, still sobbing. There was nothing they could do to comfort her. She was out. 

"I-I'm not gay! I promise!" Sobbed August.

"It's okay if you are though! I will always support you!" Comforted Iris.

Iris was lesbian and they knew it at the time but they didn't say anything because of how young they were. So they kept it to themself.

August was bullied for years after that and are still bullied to this day. Iris is still there for her though and will always be there for her. Maeve is also there for her, but she doesn't fully support it.
