"Dylan." My commander shouts. I turn my head to him and slowly put my gun down on the table. "Sir." I reply. "Good shot." He replies looking at the wooden figuring that had a whole right through its head."Thank you sir." I smile. "I want to talk to you." He doesn't smile back and turns around. I fix my posture and follow behind him quickly as he was already so far. I turn around to see all the other cadets looking at me, I swallow feeling a dark black cloud of emotions covering me.
I didn't know why I felt so scared, I didn't do anything bad, right?
My heart beats faster as we reach his office, "Sit." He commands. I quickly do as he says, he sits in front of me. He stares at me for a few seconds, "Why is your hair still long." He complains. "I'm sorry sir I was planning on cutting it this weekend." I quickly respond. I try not to sound scared but I was pretty sure a man of his history and professionalism he could hear my heart beating out of my ass.
"You need to cut it..." he says. "I will sir as soon as I can-" I begin to respond.
"By tomorrow." He states. I tilt my head confused, "Sir?"
"You're in." He states. My eyes light up, "You're kidding!" I smile widely.
I almost jump up and burst out laughing with happiness. "I don't kid." He says. I clear my throat, "Right sorry, sir."
"You deserve it Dylan you've worked harder than anyone here." He congratulates me. "Thank you sir really!" I stand up and shake his hand.
He stands up, "I want to warn you though these men they're stronger they've worked even harder and the lieutenant, hell he's even tougher than I am." He opens the door.
"I don't think anyone could scare me as much as you do sir." I slightly joke.
"I'm not so sure you're gonna have that same attitude when you meet him." He scoffs, i stand up and shiver, if my commander was scared of him what the fuck was going to happen to me?
"Go get that hair cut and say goodbye to all the candidates, I promise you this is going to be the last day that will feel normal for you." He states coldly and slams the door in my face.
The gush of air from the door makes me jump slightly, I exhale loudly and can't help but smile.
This. This moment was everything I worked for joining the 141. Everyone understood how hard it is to get in but I did it. I. CANT. FUCKING. BELIEVE. IT.
I smile and basically skip back to my room. I jump on my bed and stare at the ceiling. I jump up and turn my head quickly at a knock.
"Woah calm down." She smiles. I looked down at my hands already curled up into fist. I sigh and look at Aster. "You scared me." I tell her.
Aster is practically my best friend well she's my only friend. We've stuck together since the beginning of our training of course though she has more friends then me, cause she's not as focused in training as I am.
"What did he say?" She sits down on my bed. "I'm in!" I smile, her eyes light up and she's hugs me tightly. "I'm so proud of you Dylan this is all you've worked for!" She chuckles. "I know I know but.. I'm scared." I reply. She lets me go.
"You should be." She smiles. "Not helping Aster." I roll my eyes. "What! I'm just saying everyone says the 141 lieutenant is the scariest guy out there." She bites her lip. "The commander even seem scared of him." I add on. "You're lying!" Her eyes widened, "if the commander scared of him you're fucked."
I groan, "All I know about this crazy fucking lieutenant is that he's bat shit scary."
"And his name." Aster says. "What do you mean?" I ask. "You're stupid." She says. "Follow me." She grasps my hand and leads me down the hall. She scans through the walls of pictures and stop at one in the middle, I looked at her like she insane. She bends down at points at it.
She points at it and forces me to get down with her, "What?" I ask. She points aggressively at the picture. "Aster I know my dads right there" I point at my dad in the photo. She rolls her eyes, "Look at the guy next to him."
I stare at a tall buff man looking at the camera all you could see were his eyes while the rest of his face was covered with what seemed to be a black mask. "What?" I question her. "That's the lieutenant dumb ass." She says. My eyes widened. "What!" I yell loudly.
"Do you not know him?" She asks me. I shock my head no very quickly in shock. "Him and your dad so I've heard were best friends your dad risked his life for him." She tells me. My eyes widened even more.
This man I didn't know a single thing about? My dad died for this man? Why didn't anyone tell me this? Why am I only finding about this right now? WHAT THE FUCK.
"Dylan you're kidding me right?" She asks me. I look at her with a crazy look in my eye. "Oh you're not." She continues.
"I-I" I find it hard to find the words. "Dylan are you okay?" She runs to grab as I feel a bit woozy. "Aster I'm going to literally throw up." I state and sit down on the ground. My back hits the wall.
"I'm sorry I thought you knew I mean like didn't your mom tell you?" She asks. I stare at the picture of my dad and the man next to him. "She told me he sacrificed him to save some kid." I whisper, "I hated that kid my whole life was ruined because of that kid all to find out he wasn't real."
"Maybe she didn't want you to blame Simon." She says. "Simon?" I ask. Aster points at the name next to my dads.
Simon Riley.
"But i hear he goes by ghost." Her words tingle in the back of head.
