By the time the paramedics came and got River her parents had come home. They went in the ambulance with her and I got into my car. I headed to the hospital. I could barely see anything because my eyes were filled with tears. What if she's seriously hurt? What if she never wakes up?

I've been in the waiting room now for several hours. They won't let me in to see her because I'm family. Mr. And Mrs. Allison have told me something in passing but I still don't know if she's awake. They must be worried sick! Only months ago they lost their son... It was a terrible thing. The pool was over crowded and he was horsing around with his friends. They were pretending to drown each other when one of the boys took it too far. I was in the locker room when it happened. Changing and getting ready for my shift as lifeguard. When I came out there was people crowded around and Lynn was doing CPR. People had called the paramedics but it was too late. He was gone. In a way it was my fault. Lynn's shift was over 10 minutes ago but I was running late because of a stupid argument with my parents. Lynn got distracted easily and with a pool that full there's no way she would of noticed the boys horsing around. I remember how said the funeral was. Neil was only 14! Makes you realize how short life really is. What if River dies? What if she has brain damage? No. No I can't think like that. I have to stay positive. One good thing will come out of this. The police took my statement and are going to arrest Ezra. Maybe now he won't be able to hurt her anymore. I told them everything. About the day I saw them in the alley. The bruises I'd seen over the months. She hid them but I still saw. Just like I saw through her fake smiles. One things for sure. I'm not letting him hurt her anymore. Not now. Not ever.
