CHAPTER THREE
ROARING SPORTS FESTIVALREI WAS waiting in the locker room, watching her new classmates prepare for the Sports Festival. At first, she didn't know what it was. Even if she was generally from around Musutafu. That lead to Midoriya rambling to her about it.
The annual U.A. Sports Festival is when students, all from different classes and grades, come together to fight in combat, and multiple courses, until one last person stands as number one.
These events usually helped agencies scout for new interns. Apparently, it was popular among the whole nation of Japan. It was broadcasted live on tv for family and regular people alike to watch. Rei viewed it as another learning experience.
She observed as her classmates seemed jittery, nervous, and worked up. Rei had to admit, she was a bit, herself. But not enough to lose her composure. Uraraka stood near Rei with a nervous, yet still cheerful look on her face.
"Nervous?" Uraraka asked sheepishly.
"Not really," Rei replied. "It's just like training." Rei still remained her serious self as she heard Present Mic come on the announcement speakers, immediately making absurd and loud noises.
"Man, I wish I could be as cool and carefree as you, Ketsueki," Uraraka chuckled nervously and patted Rei's back. "Break a leg!" Uraraka grinned and ran off, away from Rei.
Rei approached Midoriya and Iida, standing between them as Present Mic explained the Sports Festival away-- the usual monologue made for tv, in case some at home were newcomers.
"Exciting, isn't it?" Iida asked, his expression serious and straight as a board. Rei nodded with a hum, casting her eyes downward to the floor.
"Do you believe we shall be able to pass the first couple of obstacles?" Rei asked Iida, but Midoriya chimed into the conversation.
"We should. I mean-- they wouldn't do anything too bad before the main highlight, right?"
"What main highlight?" Rei asked obviously. Both Iida and Midoriya looked down at Rei in a bit of confusion.
"The combat rounds," Iida stated. "It's where they determine who wins and who doesn't."
The next hour or two was a blur. It all happened to quickly. Rei could recall a feeling of-- nervousness, perhaps?-- welling in her stomach. Combat.
Combat.
Rei went through the first few obstacles with ease, dodging the robots that were positioned, and avoiding the land mines that were precariously placed. She didn't know how she did it without her quirk.
The cavalry battles were a haze. Rei recalled being the rider, able to score and steal multiple head bands from other participants.
And now, here she was, about to see who she was up against first. Rei glanced over at Iida and Midoriya. Midoriya seemed a bit anxious, and Iida was talking with a girl with pink hair. Rei was set against Ojiro.
Ojiro was very average for a member of Class 1-A. But, he was still a good classmate nonetheless. But, Rei didn't have much to go off of. She'd only joined a week prior to the festival.
Rei exhaled softly and bawled her fists. She knew she had to do it, even if it pained her.
Rei sighed and headed over to the locker rooms, glancing around to see which classmates were with her. At a table sat Midoriya, Uraraka and Iida. Rei seated herself near them and stared blankly at a wall, devising a strategy.
