We head into the car, well Miles' car. It's a truck, no surprise. There are leather black seats and no rubbish, man I wish my car was this clean.
"K, which one are we going to?" Miles asks as he starts the car. Why is his hand so big compared to the wheel? And why am I noticing that?
"Go to the one we always go to," Kaylee says as if it wasn't obvious enough.

Miles opens the door as both Kaylee and I enter.
So far all I've been to in LA is Kaylee's, well Miles's house. The petro station, and well now here. LA is different to Boston, it almost feels like a big high school, and everyone has their cliques. The cool people who get into parties, the people who are in College, the nerds, and well us. I mean don't get me wrong even when I was in high school, I never was the popular rich girl with a perfect family. Here it's different, I have a family, well I have Kaylee, but I'm not too sure about Miles.

"Hi, so table for three please," Kaylee says while the lady shows us to what looks like a small booth. I know I'm from Boston, but I've never seen a Chinese restaurant quite like this.
Kaylee goes and puts her purse next to her so I sit on the side opposite her. Miles looks at Kaylee with a look that says, really, you seriously had to.
"Ugh, fine," Miles says as he takes his place next to me. He's like really close, stay calm Mae, there's no reason to react.
"So, let's order," Kaylee says to break the awkward silence. The waiter comes and we order.

"So how do you like LA so far, shortcake?" Miles says as he looks at me like he cares.
"Yeah, well I haven't been many places yet, but it's good so far." I say trying to move further apart without him noticing.
"Well you should start going places, you can't just stay in my house forever you know," he says sipping his Dr Pepper. Of course, I know, I've just been busy, dealing with my mother's death, I want to say it out loud but I might end up tearing up, in front of him.

"I've been busy, with stuff," I say
"What stuff? watching anime all day is no excuse for being busy. Didn't you used to play the guitar?" he says.
"Yeah well-" I stop mid-sentence, what do I say? Well, Miles, when someone close to you dies, and you both used to play the guitar together, it brings back memories, memories I'm not ready to remember. " I'm taking a break from music, and don't you have something better to do than ask questions you don't even care to hear the answer to?"

The food finally comes, We eat, talk, and laugh.
"I haven't had this much fun since my-" I stop, Miles looks at me, and Kaylee looks at me with a sympathetic look.
"It's ok, Mae, I'm happy you're having a good time." Kaylee says while she reaches for the noodles.
"Oh, fortune cookies!" I say changing the subject.
"Yay, I want one." Kaylee adds.
"You know those things are made in a factory?" Miles says taking the fun out of everything.
"Well lover boy , if you think it's so fake why don't you read yours out loud for us." I say with a smirk.
"Gladly" he says while he cracks it open.
"So, what does it say?" Kaylee asks.
"Uh, nothing," he says changing his tone.
"Wait, did it say you'll be single for the rest of your life? Oh, loverboy's heart is shattered into pieces." I say as I open mine.
"Ok, if you think mine is so depressing, what does your one say?" he says smirking at me.
"It.. Says, 'say I love you', I don't know who to though?" I say with confusion.
"Maybe it's to your soulmate!" Kaylee adds.
"Or maybe it's a reminder, to me, to love myself. I suggest.
"Let's go home, it's late, I have work tomorrow. I hear Miles say as he exits the booth and goes to pay.
"No, Miles," I say taking the credit card out of his hand.
"What? No, I'll pay, you go wait in the car!" Miles takes the card from me as the lady looks at us.
"Oh, you two couple, so cute!!" she says while she collects the card from Miles.
"Oh, ha, no, i would never date him even if he was the last person on earth, on the whole frickin Universe. Never." I say crossing my arms.
"Yes shortcake, that was very mature of you. Wasn't it?" Miles says while receiving his card back.
"Oh, shut up. Your acting like I'm the one causing this." I say.
"Ok, let's go home, we don't want to pass your bedtime, now don't we shortcake?" He says it with a that cute little voice that you use on a baby when they don't want to eat their mashed carrots.

"Ugh, I'm so ready to sleep." Kaylee says as she takes of her shoes. I look over at Miles who's looking in my direction.
"What now, is there some type of food on my face or something?" I say as he just stays there silent.
"Come, now!" he demands in a kind but aggressive tone.
" fine, DAD!" I reply. He takes me up stairs, I've never seen his room, but I have a feeling that's going to change.
" Can you be any louder!" he says sarcastically
"I'm sorry where are you taking me?" I add as he opens the door to a room.
"While your room is renovating, you'll be sleeping in this one, next to mine." He says as he grabs a blanket from the closet.
"Um, ok. Thanks, I guess." I say as I sit on the bed. " so what did your fortune cookie really say?" I question.
"Well, I guess that's just a story for another time, isn't it." He says as he goes towards the door, but before he could even leave I say,
" I hate you, Loverboy!"
