Miles and I walk into Starbucks, and I start thinking about what I want.
"Hi, what would you like today?" the guy says as Miles looks at the menu in front of us.
"One iced black coffee, grande. Mae?" he says as he looks at me. Ok, I'll get what I usually get.
"One iced pumpkin spice latte, please," I say to the guy. I take out my wallet, but Miles stops me, here we go again. As Miles pays for our drinks, a tall beautiful blonde girl taps his shoulder.
"Oh my gosh!!!!!! Miles is that you?" I hear her say. Who is she? And why is she so beautiful?
"Uh, yeah." I hear him say coldly.I go find us a table but before I can go to it, she sits right in the middle.
"Can I help you?" she says acting like I wasn't just going to sit down at the table. " listen, I didn't know what Miles has told you about us but we are dating. I just got back from my long trip to New York, so don't get any ideas about him." she says plastering a smile on her face. wait, tell me why I'm listening to her talk right now.
"Hm funny, Miles never mentioned any girlfriend, but he did say something about a crazy bitch." I say walking away to find a different table."Why the hell did you order that piece of shit," Miles says watching me sip my drink.
"Hey, it fits the mood, I love my drink. I say sipping even louder this time.
" Just the thought of pumpkins, in a drink, makes me feel like vomiting," he says gauging at me.
"So, moving on. You have a girlfriend, loverboy isn't single after all." I say trying not to look jealous.
"It's.." he says but before he can finish I say,
"Friends don't care if their friends date someone, besides, you wouldn't care if I dated someone." I state.
"Uh, yeah.. I wouldn't care if you dated someone" he adds. Good, friends, but why am I kind of upset when he says that. Well it's not like I'm going to date any time soon.***
Ok, I need to get to my job interview. I know I didn't want anything to do with music before, but I need to get money so I can move out. Hopefully teaching a child how to play guitar won't be that hard for me to do. That's weird, they want me to go to a hospital, I wonder why though? I quickly get my shoes on and head to my car, I can do this.
I sit still in my car looking at the hospital doors. Ok, this shit is going to be harder than I thought.
Bae, you need the money, or you will be broke forever, you can do this, at least for mom.
I lock my car and enter the hospital, I'm still not sure why my client is in the hospital. I ask the receptionist where Emmy Morrington's room is. I follow her as she takes me into this big spacious room.
"Emmy is still recovering from an accident, she is paralyzed on the bottom half of her body." the nurse says as she exits the room.
I now see her, she's beautiful. Blonde curly locks, paired with the cutest ocean blue eyes.
I walk over to her, as far as I know, she looks excited.
"Hi, my name is Mae and i'll be your new guitar teacher." I say as she smiles at me.
"My name is Emmy, Emmy Morrington," she says as she grabs her guitar. I think I heard wrong, did she say Morrington that's Miles's last name. Wait, was she the one Miles has been visiting? Ok, you can think about this later Mae, you have a client. We go over basic chords and positions for holding the guitar. This brings back memories of when my mom first taught me how to play guitar, I was so young.
"So Emmy, that's all for today. I'll see you next week, here's a little teddy I bought for you, it was mine when I was younger and I thought you might want it." I say giving it to her, and she smiles.
"Miles, are you here? come look at my new guitar teacher," she says. Wait, Miles is here.
"Shortcake, you finally listened to my advice and got a job," he smirks
"Ok, first of all, I decided to get this job, and second, I would never listen to your advice." I say totally forgetting a child is next to me.
"You know Mae? Wait is she your girlfriend? Are you my auntie?" she says happily.
"Em, you know I only date pretty girls, Mae is my... Friend" he says continuing to smirk. Oh please, he wishes I was his girlfriend.
"Yeah, well I have to get going-"
"No, no. You are going to have dinner with us" Emmy adds.
"She is?" Miles questions.
"Oh, okay, if you say so," I say, now smirking at Miles."Come on," Emmy says rolling her wheelchair to the exit.
"Coming" Miles and I say. I can tell that Miles is happy, he's happy to see Emmy so cheerful.
"How did it happen?" I ask.
"Her mother was in the front, a truck came out of nowhere and.." he replies
"Which room does she stay in?" I ask
"She.. Died during the car accident" I can tell in his voice that it's hard to say.
"I'm, I'm so sorry. I didn't know-" he cuts me off
"It's ok, it was just a shock, to everyone."
"I would understand" I add
"Thats why I try to spend as much time with Emmy, it's as much as I can do." he says
"Miles, did it ever stop hurting? Did you ever get over the depression?" I ask.
"My grandpa once told me that feelings for a person never really go, you just find a distraction, you try to find something to fill that emptiness. So no, not really"after he says that, I hug him, I need to. He places the strand of hair that was in my face behind my ear.
"It's ok to miss them" I hear him whisper in my ear. And just like that, i start to tear up, not tears of sadness, but relief.
