This is a Modern AU out side of the MCU, all marvel characters are still in this but just not in the marvel universe. Bucky is just a normal Sargent who was wounded, ending up in the loss of his arm.
========================

You were awoken by the sound of plastic bowls falling to the hard wood floor in the kitchen, making you groan and open your heavy eyes. You looked over to your side and saw that your husband was out of bed, probably the same person who dropped stuff in the kitchen. You rubbed a hand over your tired eyes and pulled the blanket back before your feet hit the soft carpet.

You made your way down the hall and into the living room, yawning as you looked around for a moment before entering the kitchen. You smiled at the sight of Bucky standing at the stove flipping pancakes, the bowl you heard now sitting on the counter top with fresh cut oranges in it. The sight of seeing your husband shirtless always made you smile, but the reminder of what happened to him always found place when you were in the middle of admiring him. His left arm that was now cut to the middle of his bicep, almost not leaving enough to even call it an arm, and the scaring around the area, always distracted you from how amazing he looked.

" Wow." You said making him turn to look at you." Hi." He smiled as you walked over to him." Did you do all this just for little old me?" He smirked as you stood in front of him and placed your hands around his neck, his right hand holding your waist." I'm not completely helpless, and yes." "I beg to differ, and thank you." He pecked your lips before you let him go back to cooking.

You then realized he didn't have his prosthetic on, probably because you were to tired to notice before, but it wasn't a big deal, he usually wore it when he was doing things like cooking, it helped with holding pans and things in place so they didn't end up on the floor, like the bowl had." So, how did you manage to cut up these oranges?" You asked as you took a slice out of the bowl and peeled the back of it off." Apple cutter." He simply responded." I would have never thought of that." You told him. "That's why I'm the Sargent and you're not." "Ouch, that one hurt." You joked as he placed the last pancake on a plate that already had one on it." Breakfast ma'am." Bucky told you as he handed you a hot plate of food." Thank you." You said taking the plate of hot pancakes from him.

You both walked over to the island bench and set your plates down." Steve said he wants to meet up for lunch today, before he had to go back to base." You nodded as you cut your food up." Okay, I gotta head down to Wallgreens though and get your prescription before we go." Bucky nodded as he concentrated on trying to cut his food." Need help there?" He sighed in defeat when he almost pushed his plate to the floor." Yes please." You smiled and laughed to yourself as you cut his food up.

"I already have practice for when we have kids." Bucky rolled his eyes and took his plate from you." Ha ha very funny." You smiled and continued to eat your food when Bucky stopped and looked over at you." What?" You asked, your words coming out muffled from the pancakes in your mouth." Why haven't we had kids?" You suddenly blushed at the remembrance of your anniversary just four months ago, a very rememberable anniversary at that." It's a miracle we haven't." Bucky laughed making him almost choke on his food." Gosh." You laughed at him as he hit his fist on his chest and laughed more." Give me a warning next time will ya?" You patted him on the back as he stopped coughing." And you're right, it is." "Maybe your-" "Don't you dare say I'm the problem I swear." He said half laughing." I wasn't going to." He raised an eyebrow at you as he smiled." Whatever." He said then went back to eating.

After breakfast you both got ready for lunch, you were in the bathroom putting on your makeup when you saw Bucky standing in your room, debating on what to wear. You could see his back in the reflection of the mirror along with the mass amount of scarring around his left arm which ran down part of his side and up his neck. You sighed as you suddenly remembered the terrible image you saw after his accident. You were rushed to the military hospital near his base where he was being flown out after his arm was hurt. It happened so quick Bucky said it was almost as if his arm was there then gone in an instant.

He was doing a routine weapons check in when someone yelled grenade. Apparently some smart newly in-listed private thought he would test to see if the pin on the grenade would actually work if he pulled it. When he pulled it and the top part fell off he knew what he had done, he tossed it down the hall towards the commanding officer, Bucky, and yelled grenade. There was barely any time to react before it went off, Bucky was only able to turn away slightly before being tossed back by the explosion. And the only reason his face and leg wasn't harmed was that his left arm was up covering his face and his legs were protected by the desk he was at.

You shook your head and went back to doing your make up. The image of your husband all bloody and half his arm still attached to his bloody mess of a "arm" still floating around in your head made you shiver. That had been four years ago, why you just now were thinking of it you didn't know, but you hated when you did.

Once done you walked out into your room to see Bucky had placed the case his prosthetic arm was kept in on the bed. You walked over to it and popped the top of the case open to see the dark grey and black arm with the skin toned hand at the end." I wasn't sure if I wanted to wear it or not." Bucky said as he buttoned up his shirt with one hand, the left sleeve rolled up to the part of his arm that was left and pinned in place so it didn't leave a hole under his arm or flop around." Why not?" He shrugged." Don't feel like it." You nodded and closed the case back up." Any particular reason?" Bucky laughed as he looked over at you." No, why?" You shrugged this time and sat down on the edge of the bed and looked at him.

"You don't usually like leaving the house without it." He sighed and fixed his rolled up sleeve, making sure it wouldn't go anywhere." Feels more like it holds me back then aids me now a days." "How so?" " I can't move it, it's stiff and gets in the way when I want it to be somewhere else, it won't hold stuff like I need it too, and it's heavy." You giggled and nodded." Wow, you sound like you hate it now." He smiled and nodded." Sure, you could say that. It's less of a need and more of a comfort item. Make me feel less useless." "You are not useless James Barnes." He turned to look at you as you got up and walked to him." Sure, you can't do everything that you used to be able to, but you can still do so much. You made me breakfast this morning, did the dishes yesterday, even walked Sams freaking huge dog last week when he was gone." "Those aren't hard things though." He wined." Okay fine. You changed the tire on our car, all by yourself without your arm, and you changed the oil and fixed the dent on the hood." He nodded as you stood in front of him." You are not useless. I promise."

Bucky sighed and nodded." I know, I just feel so less then I was." You wanted to cry at his words, but you couldn't, that would just make him feel worse." I know, I don't exactly know but I know. You lost apart of yourself, but you've adapted to life without it so well, heck it's only been four years and your doing things the doctors said you could never do, let alone with in the first two years." He nodded and held your waist with his hand." And I still love all of you, even if that part of you is missing, I could care less because the man I love is still here with me." A stray tear ran down Bucky's face as he smiled down at you." I really don't deserve any of this." "Yes you do, you deserve more actually." He chuckled as you wiped the tear away from his face." Good pep talk." He said." Now, let's go catch lunch with Steve before he flies away for another two years." He nodded but before letting you go he pressed a kiss to your lips, one you had almost been missing.

You ran your fingers through the hair on the back of his head as he held you closer to him. You pulled apart for air only to be met by him half way again, this time with a little more passion in his action." We're going to be late." You said after realizing where your little innocent kiss was heading." Fine, but we're finishing this later." You smiled and looked up at him." Only if you do the dishes for a week." "Oh you're going to pull that on me?" He asked as you pulled back and walked towards your bedroom door." Oh I'm going to pull that on you." He ran towards you making you scream and run down the hall, him not far behind.
