𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐄𝐀 𝐒𝐄𝐄𝐌𝐄𝐃  to echo the back the grief overflowing Driftmark as Laena Velaryon's funeral began. The wind was a little too harsh and the the waters a little too rough making the crashing of wave fill the silence grief caused.

Megaera stood dutifully beside Rhaenyra dressed in black and watched as Vaemond Velaryon throw pathetic jabs at her family for Jace, Luke and Joffrey's legitimacy.

Megaera was ready to tell the man to shut his mouth and let Laena's actual family speak and speak from their heart than have him talk for another moment. He was making this about him and his thirst for the Driftwood Throne when it should be about saying goodbye to Laena Velaryon.

Men. Greedy and entitled things. That's what Princess Rhaenys had told her one day over tea. Megaera agreed wholeheartedly.

Then Daemon Targaryen laughed. In his own wife's funeral. Megaera's eyes widened in surprise and her eyebrows rose to her hairline.

If funerals were so drama filled perhaps Megaera should make it her mission to attend more.

The final goodbye was said and Megaera watched somberly as Laena's coffin was dropped into the ocean bellow. She pitied her daughters, Baela and Rhaena━━ she only knew a smidge of their pain and it still kept her awake crying some nights.

And she didn't even get to meet her mother that gave birth to her.

So once the crowd broke apart and mingled about Megaera walked up to the grieving younger girls and brought them in for hug.

The twins latched to her immediately as they cried. "It's going to be alright." Megaera comforted the two at the best of her abilities. "It'll get easier with time... I promise." Megaera held the girls close and tightly.

The three pulled apart after a while, sitting back down on the bench the twins were sitting before Megaera came to them. "I'm Megaera. But you can call me Meg, if you'll like..."

The twins nodded, Rhaena sniffed, "Thank you, Meg." Baela echoed her statement.

Megaera smiled, "No need to thank me. We're family━━ cousins. You'll always have me to depend on in times of need." She took their hands in her own and gave them a comforting squeeze. Thinking it ironic that she said such thing about family and yet would feed her other cousins, sans Helaena of course, to Vermithor.

Jace joined them then, looking sullen for another reason entirely as he sat beside Baela and held her shoulder in comfort. "It'll be okay." He assured them as she had done before.

Megaera gave him a thankful smile.

"And you'll have us there for you every step of the way. Right Jace?" She gave her brother a look and he nodded quickly.

"Of course." Jace agreed and Megaera saw Baela hold his hand. Interesting...  Megaera hummed a soft tune under her breath as Rhaena leaned on her shoulder and Baela on Jace's.

It was quiet between them, Megaera's calming tune filling the silence and calming her three grieving cousins.

Megaera looked around, eyes falling to a hesitant Aemond a few feet away from them. She raised an expectant eyebrow at him and watched as he scrambled away in the crowds. She sighed and drew her attention to her Aunt who approached them sadly.

Her humming came to a halt and she nudged the two girls next to her. "Your grandmother is here. Me and Jace will give you some time okay? If you need something just find us." She gave them a pat on the leg and stood up nodding at Rhaenys. "I offer my condolences, aunt. No parent should outlive their child. I'm sorry."

Rhaenys smiled thankfully at Megaera and her truthful words and patted her on her head. "Thank you, dear." She moved and sat to the seat between the girls that Megaera just vacated and the girls sank to their grandmother's embrace.

Smiling sadly at the sight, she walks away to find a place less crowded. Being around so many people and dealing with much emotion makes her feel...strange. Awkward. Megaera isn't someone that's very in tune with her emotions. Much less those of others.

She walked off, towards the sandy beach leaving everything and everyone behind. Megaera walked and walked until she was away from the eyes of the world and plopped down in sand.

She stared out at the sea, where Essos was across from it and wondered about her own grandmother. About the freedom she got for herself to do whatever she wanted.

Megaera winced, even if the freedom was to open her own whore house. Each to their own, she guessed. At least her grandmother was filthy rich.

Footsteps gained her attention and she scoffed. "What do you want? Came to mock and laugh like your brother has clearly been doing this entire day? Flaunt rumours and insults at me and disrespect Laena?" Her voice came out sharp and hostile.

People, it seemed, went out of their way left and right to ruin her aunt's funeral. Laena didn't deserve that.

Megaera doesn't remember a lot of the woman, she was till young when she and Daemon got married and left off to Essos. She was kind and adventurous and always supported Megaera when it came to the mischief the young Princess caused.

Laena had even taken her on plenty of rides on Vhagar as a small child per Megaera's mother's request that her daughter knows the thrill of being a dragonrider.

Megaera might not have seen the woman in years but she loved Laena and everyone was being disrespectful to her.

It was quiet for a moment as she kept her gaze to the sea, "I'm sorry about your aunt." Her eyes snapped to Aemond, glaring at him.

Megaera scoffed, "No you're not. You didn't even know Aunt Laena and if you think this will make us be friends all of a sudden your kidding yourself." She stood up, brushing off the sand clinging to her dress. "Now leave me alone. Your glaring, whispering family has already ruined enough for me as it is." She added, her voice cracking as she brushed past him and began her walk back to the castle.

Aemond scoffed, "Why are you always assuming the worst of me?!" He called out angrily and Megaera turned around so fast she stumbled in the sand.

"Because you have done nothing but prove to me that you are the worst! You call me and my brothers names and always mock me and you do it unapologetically!" Megaera snapped back, brushing the hair away from her face angrily. "Prove me otherwise and then fine! I'll even apologize to you but until then, until you stop being a pawn and grow a mind of your own, stay away from me."

She did not wait for Aemond to answer before rushing off, leaving him behind on that beach.

To think she even wanted to be his friend when they were younger!
