Chapter 5

Katherine’s POV:

I wake up the next morning feeling well rested, which is surprising, considering I got about five hours of sleep last night. Still, I go into the kitchen to find Megan pacing back and forth, looking like a nervous wreck.

“You’re awake? Good, call your mom,” she says simply, holding out her phone to me.

Before I can reply, there’s a knock at the door. I open it and see the boys, Lizzy, Ally, Sarah, and Paul.

“Hey guys! Come in,” I say with a smile.

As they all walk in, I already see the boys shooting Harry amused looks. The girls seem to be entertained as well, but when I glance at Paul, his expression is as solid as a brick. I can tell he’s preparing to give a lecture. So I’m not surprised when Harry walks by and mutters, “Prepare yourself.”

Then, as if on cue, Paul gestures for Harry and me to sit down on the couch, and everyone else gathers around us. I hear all of the boys stifle a laugh as Paul clasps his hands together and shakes his head, sighing.

“Harry, Katherine, I expected better from the two of you. I know you just met, but—,” he starts, but Niall cuts him off.

“Paul, if you’re referring to last night, I think they were just talking,” he says with a grin.

“Or so we think,” Louis adds, raising an eyebrow and Harry and me.

            “Well we were!” Harry protests.

“Okay, if you were just talking, that’s fine. Just um, be careful. You know, when—,” Paul says, but this time I’m the one to cut him off.

“Paul, I’ve had the talk! There’s no need to explain it to everyone,” I say.

When I turn around, I see everyone just about ready to burst into laughter, but they hold it in.

“Good, I was just making sure you knew. But if you were to date, just realize that there’s going to be a lot of attention from the media,” Paul says.

Suddenly, I realize what he’s saying is true. My stomach starts to churn just at the thought of what gossip websites might say about us, about me. Just when I’m feeling more worried than ever, I feel Harry squeeze my hand. I look up and see him smiling, which comforts me.

“Don’t worry, you’ll get used to it,” Sarah says.

“Welcome to the girlfriend club, Katherine!” Lizzy exclaims.

Girlfriend. The word still surprises me, and I look over at Harry in confusion.

“Woah wait, girlfriend? Are you okay with that, Harry?” I say.

“I’m more than okay with it. Only if you feel comfortable with it, though,” he replies.

“Well of course! I-I just never thought of myself as someone you’d…” I trail off.

“Love? Well I do,” he says with a smile.

As awkward as it may seem, Harry kisses me in front of everyone, and I feel completely comfortable with it. Still, I can’t help but blush when I turn to see Paul crossing his arms.
