"Hey! Can you hold the elevator?"

Jimin hears the yell from across the lobby, so he shoots an arm out to stop the doors from sliding shut. A moment later, a hand slides in beneath his own, pushing on the door to force it back open again.

It's a man; a man that Jimin has seen before a few times. A man with a face that's memorable because it's strikingly handsome.

"What floor?" The man's beautiful mouth says as Jimin stares at it.

"Oh- s-six, thanks."

The man nods, pressing the six button and watching the doors glide shut again. Jimin shrinks toward the wall, but continues to watch the man from the corner of his eye as they start their ascent. He's dressed in shorts and a baggy T-shirt, slide-on sandals that are slightly too big for him.

A bandana keeps his hair back from his eyes, and he is carrying a cloth grocery bag. He's chosen the twelfth floor, and Jimin wishes for a fleeting moment that he was higher up in the building so that he could stay in the cramped elevator with this attractive human being for a few moments longer.

But the elevator arrives at the sixth floor, and Jimin gives the man a courteous smile as he steps out. When he hears the doors finish closing behind him, hears the elevator continue upward, he sighs, shaking his head. He must be desperate for some action if he's getting so worked up over being in the general vicinity of someone attractive.

But only a few mornings later, luck appears to be on Jimin's side. He's dressed for a jog. His earbuds are in, his running shoes laced, and he hums the bars of the first song that's pumping through him, getting him hyped for his workout.

He waits for the elevator for only a few seconds before it arrives, and when it slides open, Jimin is embarrassingly pleased to see that he will have a companion on his ride down to the ground floor. Taehyung is dressed smartly in a suit and tie; a completely different look than the boho-chic outfit that Jimin had last seen him in. He must work in an office.

Jimin takes an earbud out because he feels like he should. "Hi," he manages to say to his gorgeous building-mate.

"Hey," the man says back. "Going for a morning run?"

"Yeah," Jimin says.

"Beautiful day for it," the man comments. "I wish I was into something so ambitious."

Jimin hums in agreement, making sure that the ground floor button is illuminated as the doors finish shutting.

The elevator begins to descend, then seems to stutter for a moment. When it continues its attempt toward the ground floor, a screeching, grinding sound fills Jimin's ears, and he instinctively grabs the wall to steady himself as the elevator jolts up and down. The man beside him is looking panicked.

When the ground beneath them gives a particularly violent lurch, Jimin grabs his arm, and he feels the man's hand close around his only a moment later.

It's over as quickly as it began.

It's quiet and still. The door doesn't open. None of the elevator buttons are backlit with a red glow anymore. The man lets Jimin's hand go and mashes the buttons, not getting any obvious response.

"Hate to be the one to state the obvious, but... we're stuck," the man says grimly.

"Fuck," Jimin replies.

"Yeah. Are you okay?"

Jimin nods, assessing himself, getting his bearings. "Yeah. Yeah, I'm fine. You?"
