Abasi closed his eyes, for he knew that he couldn't rely on his senses. They were designed to see the world from a 3rd-dimensional viewpoint. Which was usually a useful viewpoint, but not for what he was doing. All space and time were interconnected from the viewpoint of the higher dimensions. He knew that. And he tried to concentrate on that fact.
The hardest part was trying to see past the limitations of his 3rd dimensional perspective. What the unaware thought of as the truth of reality. It was almost funny how far off they were about that. How much of the truth that they were really missing. It was as if they stood in their hometown and thought that that was all that there was in the universe.
He found the direction that he was searching for and concentrated deeply upon it. Understanding that the two seemingly unconnected places in spacetime, were in fact one. This was basic knowledge for all of the 'Enlightened'. It didn't require the alchemical knowledge that say, elemental transmutation did. And comparing the two would be like comparing first aid to surgery. One required mere broad focus, while the other required detail focus, patience, and a knowledge of chemistry.
Abasi opened the portal (the wormhole), and they all stepped through it. (Him, Paul, Natalia, Michel, William, Ricardo, Dawn, and Jack.)
Once on the other side of the portal, they found themselves at The Peak District National Park. It was quite a beautiful park. Before them was no longer Gwen's apartment, but a giant stretch of green grassy land, with beautiful hills and scenery. It was a national park located in Northern England. It was peaceful and calm. And Jack was blown away by the beauty of it all.
Just about all of the other historical locations that he had been to, of which there had been many, had all by now become tourist traps. He had basically been under the impression that every piece of land no matter how remote, had succumbed to man's inhibitions to pave over it by now. Yet Eldon Hill still remained remarkably refreshingly remote. Though still it was a tourist trap in a way, as a large state park, at least it was kept unadulterated by civilization.
It was quiet and wasn't filled with people either. Which meant that they could scout the area in peace without being disturbed. Jack knew of course that it was unlikely that they would find anything. As much as he had hoped to find some secret passage into the hill, he didn't expect it.
In the tale, Thomas the Rhymer found a beautiful woman who turned out to be The Queen of the Elves, and she was the one who opened up the hill to him. He doubted that the hill literally opened though. He figured that if there was any truth to the tale, then it was probably something similar to what he had just seen Abasi do with the portal.
They were not as alone as they thought they were. There were other men with them. Well... Not men exactly. Calling them men, would only be half right. They were centaurs. Yes, you heard that right. Half men, half horse. They were armed from tooth to the hoof. There had to be at least a dozen of them. All aiming their M240 machine guns right at the group of unexpecting humans.
A strong burst of wind blew right past them. It was as if they had just been blown right past by a speeding train. The speed of it blew their hair and clothing back and to the left. And it blew the mercenaries hats right off of their heads. It was no train. It was Sleipnir. Oden's 6-legged grey horse. And on top of Sleipnir was none other than Morgan herself.
"Throw down your weapons! You're outnumbered!" She ordered loudly from on top of her steed. "Don't make this harder than it needs to be. We need not be each other's enemies. Fighting each other would just be a waste of both of our times and energy."
It was said as if it was as a warning, or threat, but there was more to her threat than she let on. She meant it when she said that she didn't want to fight them. The truth was that she feared losing any more of her men. The centaurs weren't easy to come by. The Halter of Clydino Eiddyn could create only one per night. And to amass the 14 that she had, had taken two whole weeks.
