Hailey's POV
The next day of school we didn't have maths and I wasn't feeling the best for obvious reasons.
He would have sent me around a million dirty messages since morning.
"How yuh look so" natty ask scrutinizing my face. I knew how much my resting bitch face could be a little intimidating.
"How" I asked and I think my under eyes bags wouldn't show seeing I tried covering with a little makeup.
"Anuh my Hailey this" she said and I picked around my lunch.
"Girl stop worrying about me and let's focus on getting Jadon Smith to go out with you" I say mocking the way she would say his name in her 'up town' voice.
"Please date? My father would have a heart attack before he let that happen" she said and I forgot how overbearing her father could be. You're one to talk? Said my subconscious.
"Well you're eighteen now he has to cut you some slacks" I told her who nods agreeing with me. Me being a hypocrite because daddy is the same with me. I don't know why they're so overprotective.
"This curry is not currying" I closed my lunchbox and hers was almost finished.
"It's alright" she shrugged still eating.
How comes I don't see him at school today.
He must be tending to his other businesses. What? I wouldn't know because he doesnt share anything of that sort. I can't even be mad at him because we both made it clear what our relationship was.
The day went by slowly. Exams dates wrre nearning and I felt unmotivated to study anything really.
I got home and did the same as the day before. Except I didn't cook since there were leftovers.
We had dinner as my grandmother told me stories about her childhood.
"Wow mama sounds wicked though" I said after hearing the story about how she used to beat her for the simplest things.
"Well I used to think it was wickedness, then I get older and I realized she was just ignorant and then the stress of being a single mother maybe got the best of her, you know poverty, frustration all those things could have caused her anger" she told me and I never looked at it that way.
"Did you speak with your father from the week started" she asked and I nodded.
Of course. A week hasn't passed that we didn't talk.
"Yes he said he's mostly available on weekends but you know, we speak whenever" I told her and she nods.
"My Joseph, always working hard" she said shaking her head with a smile. He's indeed hard working.
"So you're not gonna tell me who you let in my house last night Hailey Brown" she asked oit of nowhere and my fork fell on my plate making a loud clinging sound. I just gave myself away.
"Yuh think mi deaf" she laughs and I couldn't meet her eyes. Well this is embarrassing. What did she hear exactly.
"I don't know but I would like to meet him if I can, just be careful hun..use protection you have your whole future ahead" her voice is firm and this and a whole lot more reasons why I love her.
"I know ma, it doesn't matter it's over anyways" I snickered.
"Well what happened" she instigated but I am definitely not telling her what happened or who it was.
"I don't want to talk about that right now sorry" I told her because I tell her most things but not everything of course. We all have secrets.
We chatted about our favorite topic...politics, I used to find it annoying when she used to argue whenever she watched the news but now as I got older I understood her frustration.
