"you know you're so annoying, sunshine," jay ruffled the girl's hair. she had invited him to the following location on their quest to eat everywhere on the campus. with jay, she could never tell when he was serious, or when he when being sarcastic, so she took it at face value.

"how do i stop?" she asked, her voice quivering slightly.

"you just shut up, sunshine. easy as," he rolled his eyes, perhaps affirming her suspicions.

jay didn't mind the silence: joori found it suffocating.

"i just have one question jay, why do we keep going to the places near me? let's go somewhere else next time."

he shrugged in reply, smirking as he let his thoughts run wild. soon enough, they arrived at the quaint little café next door to the red dragon.

"maybe you should've worked here instead of drips," jay commented. "half full, get it, sunshine?"

joori nodded, although she secretly hated that he made that joke. it was the exact opposite of what she wanted to be, and clearly, jay didn't think she had made any progress in his direction. the half-full cafe was smaller than drips and sold more than just coffee. it was never as full as drips, but joori always saw a steady stream of people inside as she passed it.

"a table for two, please." the waiter nodded at jay, before brandishing a warm smile that made joori feel uncomfortable.

"so," he opened his pad of paper to write down their order, whilst refusing to make eye contact with the girl. "what would you like to drink today?"

"a chocolate milkshake with two straws please," jay replied.

the waiter looked bemused. "are you sure?"

"she's my girlfriend, thank you."

joori looked pale. "i'm what now?" she whispered in his ear.

"if it means i can show you every ounce of me, well, isn't that what you've been wanting?" his voice sent shivers up her spine.

"very well," the waiter continued. "anything else?"

"a slice of vanilla cheesecake, please, but yes then that would be all," jay interrupted before joori could get a word in. she wanted to order too, but she didn't want to push jay's buttons.

a few minutes later, a large milkshake came out, with a slice of cheesecake on the side.

"enjoy," a woman smiled as she brought out the snacks.

jay put both receptacles in the middle of the table and handed joori a spoon.

"dig in."

"oh wait," she felt humbled by his generosity. "that's for both of us? thank you jay."

jay smiled, but felt saddened by the idea that she wasn't used to being treated. he didn't want to be her boyfriend per se, but she wanted her to get pampered.

meanwhile, joori was freaking out. this wasn't how it was supposed to go. she quickly ate her half of the food, and waited for jay. seemingly, he caught on that something was up, so he finished his side of cake, and left the drink.

"you wanna talk?"

joori nodded.

"you wanna talk somewhere else?"

joori nodded again.

jay politely paid for their food, and watched joori scurry towards her dorm, looking back every few meters to check that jay was still following behind, and keeping up with her.
