"sunshine, let's go for a walk, i think you need a breather."

she didn't want to argue, but her lack of response cemented her position on the matter. jay could see that she was reluctant to be with him, but he didn't let that phase him, instead walking with her along the nearest path out of campus.

as soon as they were alone, jay took off her jacket and watched her relax as she was relieved of the thick material's weight. it was seasonably cold, but jay saw that she was still wearing a few layers underneath, and decided that she would be warm enough without it. joori noticeably shivered after but didn't ask for her jacket back, a sign that she knew jay's intentions were right. jay himself was wearing a black and white flannel and skinny jeans, so he could always offer her an extra layer, although, after their previous argument, he didn't want to seem like he was making a move. instead, he walked alongside her with her jacket folded over his arms, pressed to his chest.

they walked the pedestrianised streets, maintaining a few feet between each other all the while, the distance between the two evident. they didn't walk in silence, but neither of them was particularly talkative, having long uncomfortable pauses between sentences and questions.

the streetlights lit the quiet path, their gentle hum and the moths populating them. the artificial light was quite dim though, and joori hoped the lack of light wouldn't lead her to trip and embarrass herself. tall trees laced the sides of the path, which further lead to open grass, where joori knew it'd be perfect to have a picnic in other weather.

"why don't we go shopping? that sounds fun, you know, to get your mind off everything?"

after he asked her that question, she felt nervous, she didn't know where to go to impress him, and she for sure wouldn't buy something bright or girly in his presence; she wanted to show him that her style mirrored his, even if the truth was that it didn't.

fortunately, there was a halloween store in walking distance, which y/n decided to take him to. it was september, so decorations were minimal, and the mannequins had more wearable outfits rather than out there costumes. of course, the shop was still otherwise filled with costumes, costume jewellery and costume accessories, that joori hoped jay didn't feel mocked by.

if joori was honest, she regretted entering the shop the second she pushed open the door. it wasn't his style, and it wasn't hers either; she knew deep down that jay had noticed that too. the store was covered in bats, and cobwebs, prepping for next month. black capes and scream masks were displaced on the wall, making her options limited.

"buy me something you'd wear, sunshine. you're paying."

although joori didn't want to admit to him that she wasn't going to buy something she'd actually wear, she still wanted him to believe it was.

jay picked up a 'blood'-stained mask, and snuck up behind joori, aiming to scare her. with his arms around her, and his head down, jay had never seen such fright when she turned around. he laughed, as joori held her hand on her heart, panting.

"come on joori, I'm getting bored now," jay complained, pouting. they had been in the shop for a while now, but joori couldn't find anything, and she couldn't just pick something off the rack because it was full of not-very-subtle attire. she really wanted to convince jay, so she had to pick something cleverly, not something that was so obviously unlike her.

in ordinary circumstances, joori wouldn't even wear jewellery; not because she didn't want to, but because she was lazy; so picking cargo pants with detailed chains or fishnet hand warmers was out of the window.

on a rack of reduced sweaters and tees, she picked out a long-sleeved black and white shirt.

"here you go," she held it up to jay's chest.
