"Ouch, my head!" Tina screamed as she woke up. She found herself in Shane's guest bedroom and wondered what the fuck she was doing there. All she knew was that she had a lot to drink the night before.
Shane made her way towards the guest bedroom to check in on Tina. Last night had been... Odd to say the least. She needed to make sure Tina remembered what she had done before leaving the house. "You okay?"
"My head is just throbbing. How much did I drink last night?" Tina made a failed attempt to get up. She felt her head spin and felt like she could throw up any minute now.
"Hold on, you might wanna drink this first," Shane handed her a glass.
"What's this?"
"My hangover cure. Trust me, it's been working for years. Don't question it, just drink it."
Tina winced as she took a sip. It certainly taste like... what shit would taste like in liquid form, she was sure of it.
"So, things got a bit out of hand last night..." Shane took a deep breath before continuing. "You, hm... You broke up with Claire in front of everybody, so there's that."
"I did? Oh shit... I have to fix that. Why did I break up with her?!" Tina was confused, she couldn't remember a lot from last night. She remembered hearing somebody screaming a lot, and it brought up some negative feelings in her.
Shane shook her head. "You said she was annoying you and you couldn't take it anymore. You seemed sober, you know, in the making of that decision. Poor girl though, I don't think she saw it coming."
"Bette must have loved that, I'm sure," she said rolling her eyes and taking another sip of her drink. Bette must have enjoyed the entire show. Watching Tina lose control while she had it all together... Breaking up with her girlfriend. Of course Bette would think Tina broke up with Claire because she hadn't gotten over her.
"I don't think so. She actually left before you broke up with Claire."
"Oh." Interesting. Well, at least she wasn't that humiliated in front of Bette. Maybe Bette didn't even see her lose control!
"Yeah. You, um, you said some pretty heavy shit to her, so she ended up leaving earlier than expected," Shane said softly.
Tina couldn't believe what she was hearing. What could she have said to Bette and why did she break up with Claire? Claire was so... nice. And what did Bette do now to make Tina act that way?
"I'm sure she deserved it."
"I don't know about that. You kind of just... I don't know what hit you. Did you use anything at the party last night? I mean, some people did and that's fine, hell, I did, I just didn't think you had."
Tina was completely confused. "No, not that I know of. Shit, it was that bad?"
"It gets worse. I mean, you were a total bitch to Bette. It was some sort of public humiliation. And it came out of nowhere."
"Jesus, what did I say?" She started getting worried.
Shane looked away. She knew Tina was going to be destroyed when she found out what she had said, so she avoided looking directly at her. "It started when she said her ex, Mia Lavigne, was still living in Paris and you said Bette didn't do long-distance. You remember that?" she nodded. Sure, she had a vague memory of making such a comment. "Well, after that, you stormed off to the bathroom and Bette followed you. I don't know what happened there, you might need to ask her, but when you came back, Bette's eyes were filled with tears. She excused herself and said she would leave, and you told her to get over you. You said, um, that you were in a happy, healthy relationship, completely different from what you had with her, and... You said she could never fully commit to anyone. And, Tee... You said that in front of everyone. You screamed it."
What the hell had gotten into her to be acting that way? Tina felt the moral hangover kick in, and that... There was no magic drink to cure.
"Fuck."
Those were some pretty strong things to say, especially in front of others. And, although Tina felt that way about some things, she wouldn't normally expose Bette - well, anyone, as a matter of fact - like that.
"And um, right after that, Claire tried to take care of you and take you home but she was met with resistance. You basically told her to fuck off and ended things, again, in front of everyone."
Tina stood up immediately. "I need to call Claire and make things right," she looked for her phone.
Shane touched her arm as if to stop her. "I'm not saying you shouldn't call Claire and make things right, but, as a friend, I need to ask you this: are you sure you wanna get back together with her? You seemed pretty certain of your decision."
"Shane, I was fucking drunk or drugged or whatever got into my system. I really like her, of course I would wanna get back together."
Shane wasn't convinced. Tina didn't seem certain at all, in fact, that seemed to be the only thing she did right last night, yet she was ready to undo it.
"Okay then. I don't think a phone call is gonna do it, though. You might wanna go over to her place and apologize in person."
Tina ran her fingers through her hair nervously. "I guess. Fuck! Where's my phone?"
"Oh, about that. You kept texting Bette to go fuck herself, so I hid it from you. I'll get it back, just a second." Shane went into the bathroom and got Tina's phone back, handing it to her.
"I'm sorry, Shane, I'm truly sorry. I never meant for things to go this way, shit, I didn't even know what came over me. You know I'm not one for public scandals."
"I know. Can I just ask for one thing?"
"Anything." Tina was so ashamed that she really would do anything to make things better between her and Shane at least.
"Call Bette. She deserves an apology, a good one at that. I really need you to do that because it was hurtful to even watch, Tee. And I don't even know what you said to her in the bathroom to make her cry... You know she loves you. She doesn't say it, hasn't said it to me either, but I know she still does. And nobody's asking you to love her back, Jesus, but just... Don't kick her when she's down."
"I know I fucked up. I'll try to call her later tonight. I just need to make things right with Claire first."
"Okay, I get that. But Tee... I say this because I love you: if you don't call Bette tonight, I'll know. And it'll do a real damage to our friendship. I don't want that."
"I give you my word. I need to run, I gotta get to Claire's to start fixing some of this mess. Anybody else I hurt?"
"Not particularly, no. We were all pretty worried is all. Alice went to Bette's last night to calm her down. You might wanna say something to her too."
"I will."
"And Tee?"
"Yeah?"
"If you're not over Bette, there's a way to get her back. You don't have to reject her because things didn't work out back then. You're both older now, more mature, and, most importantly, living in the same city again. You can do it if it's something you both want."
"I'm not interested, Shane. Thank you though." Tina smiled firmly as she grabbed her things to leave Shane's place.
AN: Wellllll..... Any comments? :)
