Layla let out a low whistle, fighting back a yawn as she shifted in her seat yet again. She and Matt had been talking for what must have been hours now, him starting from the beginning explaining about his accident and the sudden death of his father to how he got started as the Daredevil.
"So, you're trying to tell me that and old blind man named Stick, taught you as a blind child to kick ass. In order to fight some mythical war and you decided just to fight crime instead? That feels like the plot of a cheesy kung fu movie."
He laughs, adjusting his position on the couch, "Yeah I can see that, well not really, but you know what I mean. Don't worry though, I didn't exactly buy into Sticks whole war thing."
"Yeah, no I wouldn't have either. What kind of dumb ass name is the Hand anyway?" she asks, covering yet another yawn. "And I thought I had a shit childhood."
Matt chuckled moving slowly from his spot on the couch, "As much as I would love to get into that, if i'm remembering correctly you've been up what 48 hours now or something."
"Eh, not the first time. Certainly won't be the last."
"True," he says stepping briefly out of the room, returning a moment later with some bedding in his hands. "Either way, you've had a long few days and they're probably not over yet. We both need sleep, I'm gonna crash out here, you take my room."
"What? No, I can't kick you out of your room, you've already done so much."
"It's not a big deal," he said as he began making up the couch to sleep on, Layla jumping to her feet to help, "besides." He motioned towards the window, a bright neon light flowing through it. "That'll keep you up all night out here."
"Honestly Matthew," "Matt, please. And I'm not budging, Now go get in my bed. Wait!" He stammered, despite the light streaming through the window she was certain she saw a little color tint his cheeks as he tried to correct his phrasing, "that's not what I, look. Just take my room. Please?"
Huffing out a breath, trying her best not to laugh Layla took pity on the clearly flustered man, she nodded putting a gentle hand on his shoulder, "if you're insisting. I appreciate it, if you change your mind though please don't hesitate. I'm a big girl Matt, besides thanks to the Army I can sleep just about anywhere."
"Truth be told, I don't get a lot of sleep as it is." be confessed as he made his way towards his bedroom door. Grabbing her bag from the floor Layla quickly followed, "I can imagine. Lawyer by day solo Power Ranger by night. When do you find the time to wash those fancy pajamas of yours, can't exactly see you dropping that get up off at the cleaners."
As she began digging through her bag for the clothes and toiletries had had grabbed for her, she heard him let out a laugh while he dug in some drawers behind her. "Don't worry, it gets done. If you need the restroom its right through there, there's not a lot in the way of food in the Kitchen but you can help yourself to anything you find. If you need anything let me know, I'm a pretty light sleeper but I promise you won't bother me."
"Ok, thanks," she said as he walked out, the sound of his bedroom door sliding closed behind him. After a moment of looking around his room, taking stock of the sparse decor, she stepped into the bathroom, quickly changing and freshening up. Pulling the comforter on his bed back, she let out a snort at the sight of the silk sheets before sliding herself in between them. As the events of the last two days began to wash over her and sink into her thoughts her mind began to flit to Peter and she couldn't help but wonder what he was doing, she hoped he hand't tried to reach out as her phone was currently dead in police custody, along with her laptop and all of her research. She made a mental note to check with Matt and Foggy about when she might get her personal belongings back, just as she began to relax enough to drift off into a dreamless sleep.

The sunlight streaming through the windows made Layla let out a sleepy groan, she rolled over, feeling confused for a moment as she lay facing a sliding barn door rather than her apartment wall. After a moment, the events of the last few days returned to her, reluctantly climbing out of the surprisingly soft bed, grabbed some clothes to wear and quickly got ready.
Stepping out of the bathroom she put her sleep clothes into her duffle, debating on where to put it before finally deciding to shove it against the wall out of the way.
Once in the living room she was mildly surprised to see Matt not only awake but sitting on his couch already dressed for the day in a dress shirt and pants, a tie loosely hanging around his neck, not yet tied.
"Sorry," she said moving to take a seat in one of his arm chairs. "I didn't think about how early you would need to get up."
"It's no problem," he waved her off, "I slipped in and grabbed some clothes when I got back, so I could get dressed out here. Not like I need the mirror or anything."
"Yeah," she smiled, "wait. Got back? Like, while I was sleeping?"
"Yeah, I tried not to wake you. I went out and did a short patrol, put some feelers out with some of my contacts, just trying to find out what the russians are up to and how the Irish are involved. I made coffee by the way." He added, pointing towards the kitchen.
"Oh thank God." She said jumping to her feet moving to fix herself a cup. "You could have woken me ya know," she said stirring the contents of her now full cup, watching as Matt crossed the apartment towards her. "I could have gone with you, could have helped a little. Granted," she said leaning against the near by counter as he propped himself on the opposite one a cup in his own hand. "I don't exactly have a fancy suit and all like you, but I'm still pretty capable."
"I don't doubt that, he said giving her a small smile, draining his cup he set it down crossing his arms over his chest as his face took on a more serious appearance. " maybe another time, besides you've had a long couple of days and unfortunately they're not over. Which brings me to today, I have to go into the office for a bit, the terms of your release mean I can't leave you alone, not even in my apartment and if I'm being honest I wouldn't put it past Blake and Hoffman to be watching or try pulling something the second I left you alone."
She took a long sip of her coffee, noting that for a blind guy he made a decent pot, she couldn't help rolling her eyes at his words though, something she was certain he knew she did.
"Wonderful, I get accused of Murder and nearly thrown into jail just to end up needing a legal babysitter."
"Hey, could be worse. You could be in jail." he said moving around the corner, making quick work of his tie then grabbing a few objects of the counter and shoving them in his pants pockets, before putting his suit jacket on, adding "Or dead for that matter."
She sighed, drinking the rest of herdrink and washing out her cup, mentally kicking herself for sounding ungrateful for the sacrifice Matt was making on her behalf, "You're right. I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to sound like an ungrateful bitch It's just-"
"No, I get it. I'm sure you've felt very out of control since you woke up. Trust me, I get it. I woke up one morning as a kid without my eyesight, but at least I knew mostly what happened to get me there, I can't begin to imagine waking up with a chunk of my life just missing and then to have all of this going on as well."
"Yeah," she nodded, moving around closer towards Matt "the apartment, as silly as it sounds felt like something almost normal. It was mine, well Mia's but close enough, and as close to normal as I can get right now."
"You'll get back there, just give it some time. I'm gonna help you as much as I can I promise. How about you get ready real quick and i can tell you what I found out last night on the way to the office, it's not a super long walk."
"Ok, just give me a couple minutes, I'm basically ready."
Heading back into Matt's room, she quickly finished getting ready, she wasn't sure what the day would hold but felt determined to prepare for anything that could come at her.
