My breathing hitches, and my eyes squeeze close, my teeth grinding into my lip. Every fiber in my being hopes that no sound has been made, and its all in my head.
My gut has this feeling they are going to hate me.
"Hello? Who's in there?" Ash asks loudly and he's looking straight at me. And then I realize.
He can't see me.
It's way too dark in the bush I'm in. A small hiss comes from Ashton when Micheal slaps his chest and my eyes dart back and forth between them.
What the hell is my next move?
"There could be a murderer in there. Nice going Ash, you just got us killed." Micheal rolls his eyes, and his voice drifts away as my feet dig into the uncovered leaves against the building behind me. They are wet enough that they don't crunch and I am almost thanking God when my feet touch the grey of the sidewalk. They don't notice as I stumble out of the bush, my hands grasping the brick.
"What if someone saw us?" Is the last thing I hear before I turn a corner and head off toward the other teams direction.
Shadows dance across the buildings, giving a shaky and creepy feel to the campus. Its quiet, a bit too quiet, and it feels as if someone is watching me.
But when I turn, nobody is there.
I continue on my journey and spot a dumpster sitting against a building. My feet jog over to the retched smelling box, and they dig into the black garbage bags on top as I climb on. I place my hands on the building gutter and pull my body weight, rolling onto the roof, my ponytail swishing against the wind. I surprised I don't slip from the amount of snow packed onto the surface. and that's when I spot it.
Their base.
It's one of the most obvious places, the school statue. Cal is the only one standing next to it, so I'm guessing every one else is trying to find our teammates. He leans against the stone, strolling through his phone, non interested in the events around him.
What a team player.
"Hey!" A sudden shout startles me from below and my eyes gaze around hoping there is no one on the roof with me. There isn't. "Who's up there?"
My breath hitches and for some reason my first instinct is to camouflage myself. My body drops into the snow, and suddenly my face is full of freezing snow particles.
Nice, Camilla.
"Don't pretend that I didn't see you! I know you're there!" I lift my face from the snow and I huff at the voice. It just had to be him didn't it.
My pony tail is soaked as it touches my face, and I can feel the snow soaking through my jeans. Its only a bit, but it's still cold nonetheless. My palms dig into the white crystals as I scramble to get a grip on the roof enough to crawl away from the echoing voice.
