I rarely talked to Aaron during work unless he spoke to me first, I couldn't just flip a switch the way he had and act as though no time had passed. It fucking passed.
Three years without a single 'hello Jude' or 'how are you today?' from him and all of a sudden, he applies for a job where he knew I worked, then tries to make me laugh with puns about bread. It was an unsuccessful attempt, I just glared at him and he bashfully smiled looking down in embarrassment.
Now I was standing at Amelia's driveway huddled up with my friends on each side cursing mother nature for making the wind cold. I wore a black sweater and my favorite straight-legged jeans, the knees so worn out that holes replaced the once unblemished fabric, white strings littered the holes like a spider web strung across my knees. On top, I had on my blue Carhart coat like always.
"Amelia," Adrian grumbled. "Having a girlfriend isn't worth all of this."
"Wyatt will be with us Adri don't complain," I told him and a happy smile took the place of the once grumpy pout.
"Why did no one tell me about this?" He asked now with an excitement he has yet to ever have about anything else.
"Because you would've freaked out after overthinking it all week," Amelia explained to her brother clutching my sleeve to warm herself up. "Then you wouldn't have agreed to come with us."
This made Adrian's eyes go wide as he slowly turned his head, "oh fuck you're right. I might actually-" He tried to leave my side but I laughed and held onto the hood of his coat, he let out a dramatic choking sound as I pulled him back.
Before I could make fun of him a large white van pulled up in front of us and my face twisted with confusion because what the hell is that? It looked like the kind of van creepers drove around in snatching little kids off the side of the road. "What the fuck," I muttered as the sliding door opened in the back, and Wyatt climbed out with a huge lopsided grin.
He held his arms out toward the opening like a magician did after a trick and I heard Adrian giggle quietly at my side. "Sorry I know this isn't exactly luxurious but it's the only way we could all fit in one car," He explained sheepishly. "It's my older brother's van, he uses it for his band."
I raised my brows sarcastically but said nothing. None of us did and I was beginning to wish I hadn't agreed to this on Monday.
Wyatt laughed awkwardly, "uhh you can get in I swear we aren't kidnapping you. Cat's in there I swear."
"Amelia!" A feminine voice yelled from the back of the van and my friend instantly perked up, she dragged us towards the opening and I barely had time to process the fact there were no seats back there before she tugged on my arm and I was forced in against my will. The floor was dusty and I sat opposite to Amelia with Adrian next to me.
When my elbow bumped into someone at my other side I apologized glancing over at them and rolling my eyes when I saw Aaron. Wyatt sat next to Amelia, his shoes a sliver away from touching Adrian's as he tugged the door shut. My friend's face burned bright and when Wyatt's dark brown eyes saw him he smiled, lifting his hand and waving to him.
Amelia and I exchanged knowing glances with each other holding back our smiles. Cat leaned into Amelia's side and kissed her cheek leaving a faint lipstick mark in place of her lips. Amelia's face grew warm just like her twin's and I almost laughed.
