Vinnie gritted his teeth as he turned his closet upside down, softly cursing under his breath.
"Come on, you stupid thing, I know you're here somewhere..."
But after throwing all the clothes he owned on the floor, he still hadn't found the black bandana that was part of the official uniform and he let out a stream of profanities in both English and Martian as he kicked the closet door in frustration.

"Everything okay here?"

Floki popped up in the door opening of Vinnie's room and Vinnie glanced at his father before he went down on his knees to go through his clothes one more time with a face like thunder.
"No, I can't find that stupid bandana of that stupid uniform. I really don't get why we need to wear it tomorrow, it's ridiculous and totally unnecessary, not to mention uncool."
Floki's left corner of his mouth curled up as he rested his shoulder against the doorframe.
"Well, someone once told me that the ladies dig guys in uniform, so maybe it'll help you impress Siggy."
"I don't want to impress Siggy, she's scary, to say the least", Vinnie muttered as he now lay on his stomach to look under his bed, not at all impressed by his father's attempt to cheer him up.
"I tried once, and all I got was black eye and a busted ego, so thanks but no thanks."

When he saw nothing but dust and some other undefinable objects from which he didn't even want to know what they were, the white-furred youngster pushed himself up and crawled to his nightstand on all fours.
"I just don't understand why Ivar can't come on this mission. He's almost as good as me", he continued his rant as he searched the top drawer.
"Only a fool would put you two in the same team. Besides, he's a suspect in that missing person's case, remember? He's not allowed to leave town due to the investigation, let alone the planet", Floki answered patiently, watching his son go through his room like a tornado on Earth.
The moment his father mentioned the case, Vinnie froze for a moment and the image of a bloody room flashed before his eyes.
Blood.
So much blood...

Knowing his father was watching him, Vinnie shook his head almost invisible to snap out of it again and after a forward roll, he bounced back to his feet and made his way over to the desk in the corner of his room.
"And now I'm stuck with Throttle. Great. Just great."
"Who was once your best friend", Floki calmly pointed out to him.
He wasn't entirely sure why his beloved son was acting up like this, but he assumed it had something to do with being nervous about his first mission, a thing he couldn't blame him for and so he didn't.
"Yeah, but that was before he became such a buzzkill", Vinnie grumbled as he yanked one of the drawers of his desk open.
Floki shrugged as a small frown appeared on his face.
"I dunno, Vin, perhaps you should cut the guy some slack. You know how his father is. He's under a lot of pressure. Too much, if you ask me."

Vinnie let out a laugh, though it was a humorless one.
"Yeah, well. I'm under a lot of pressure too, but you don't see me shutting my friends out or putting the army above everything."
Floki slowly nodded with a furrowed brow, trying very hard to follow the train of thoughts that was currently racing through his son's mind.
"And what pressure are you referring to, exactly?"
"To be the baddest mamma jammer from this side of the asteroid belt, of course", Vinnie said while giving his father one of his finest 'well, duh' looks.
"Oooh, right. How could I forget? My bad", Floki muttered under his breath, shaking his head with a smile, but then, another whirlwind flew past him into the room.
"Vinnie, Vinnie, look at my dress!"

The high and somewhat squeaky voice broke Vinnie out of his lamentation, just in time as well, for the owner of the voice threw herself at him full speed, and he quickly caught her before she would knock them both over.
"Whoa, slow down, Revna. How am I gonna be able to see your dress if you go through the room like a rabid Sabre Squid?"
"ELSA! My name is ELSA!", his little sister shrieked, her cheeks red under her white fur as she looked at Vinnie with her ruby-red eyes fuming and her little hands clenched into fists.
As always, seeing his feisty little sister was enough for Vinnie's annoyance to vanish like smoke in the wind, and he quickly bowed while making a graceful gesture with his hand.
"My sincerest apologies, Princess Elsa. I wasn't thinking."
Revna's face softened and she straightened her back while giving her brother a majestic look.
"You're forgiven, my best knight."
