David had a long shift at work last night and got home late, exhausted. You remembered this when you woke up early as he was still asleep. You thought about getting out of bed and letting him rest, then you caught yourself looking at all his features. His eyelashes, his temples. Down to his cheekbones and to the bridge of his nose. You noticed how relaxed and loose his muscles were. His eyebrows weren't furrowed and his jaw wasn't clenched.
You were still looking at his features when he caught you in the act with his eyes watching yours as they traveled around his face. Finally realizing he was watching you as well you spoke,
"Oh! You're awake!" you said with surprise and slight embarrassment.
"Good morning, angel. How long have you been looking at me?" He said in a deep morning voice.
You stayed looking at him, saying,
"I'm not sure. You had a long night last night, so I thought I'd just let you sleep." You smiled.
He pulled you in close and laid his head on your chest, curling into you.
"Mhm.." he mumbled, still sleepy. "I know you were gazing at me." You felt him smile, despite you no being able to see his face.
You rub his back and thought to yourself— what if he just shifted. Right now. Just out of the blue. You started to snicker at the thought. He doesn't shift much around you so it'd be a nice surprise.
"What are you snickering up there about?" He said, listening to your laugh.
"I was just thinking.. what if you just shifted, right now. For no reason." You said and looked at him. He looked up and gave you this really look.
"Just a thought!" You said, just in case your plan backfired.
"Would you like me to?" He said. Then you went wide-eyed.
"Yes!" You exclaimed.
He grumbled and agreed, then shifting to his wolf form.
"Yay, wolf-davey!" You laughed and scratched behind his ear. He did his grumpy growl and went back to laying on you.
You decided on savoring this rare moment and went back to rubbing his back.
You smiled once more and said "you know Davey... you're gonna get dog hair all over the bed." You said, now holding back your laughter. He just sighed and the two of you, interlinked, went back to cuddling and sleeping.
