Chapter 11: Gone but not Forgotten

Mason shot out of bed, nearly tackling the messenger, snarling, "What do you mean she's gone?" The guard trembled, to overcome by Mason's menacing aura. Mason shoved him aside and bolted from the room toward the dungeon. Sunlight streamed in through the massive windows, not a cloud in the sky.

Mason didn't have the mind to either shift or use his magic to get there faster, his thoughts overcome with concern for Sophie.

"Mason!" Matheus bellowed as Mason blew bast him. "Stop!"

Ignoring him, Mason continued. He nearly tripped down the stairs, stumbling into the lycan's cell. Hunter was there, taking notes when Mason arrived.

The collar looked as though it had been unlocked, rather than broken out of. No other trace was found.

"Mas—"

"Don't," Mason growled at Hunter, running from the room to go see his father.

"I tried to stop you," Matheus said as Mason returned. Mason pushed past him into the study, where a meeting had gathered. "Now that Mason is here, I'll tell you all that I sent out our warriors. She's gotten away and is most likely wreaking havoc."

"The lycan attacking our pack?" Mason snapped. Matheus shook his head.

"She doesn't seem to be, at the moment. There is no scent of her outside the cell, so we assume she used something to cloak her scent—"

"How could the lycan do that without help?" Mason interrupted. "I think she was kidnapped." Matheus, Nathaniel, and Fredrick exchanged glances. Annabelle wrapped her hand around Mason's arm in an effort to calm him. "What?" Mason snarled looking at the three men.

"Kidnapped? Why would she be kidnapped?" Matheus cocked his head sideways. "It's more likely she wasn't correctly secured this morning."

Mason tried to jump forward to attack his father, claws extending from his fingers, only to be held back by Jack and Fredrick, "How dare you accuse me—"

"She's no longer here, is she?" Matheus yelled. "She got under your skin and now an uncontrollable lycan is on the loose! Our entire pack and our guests are now in mortal danger."

Mason shook off Jack and Fredrick, but didn't retract his claws, "We need to find her."

"As I stated, our warriors are already on it, searching through security footage and the nearby forests," Matheus said firmly. "Mason, go to your room."

"What? But I can—"

"Help? You've done enough," Matheus snapped. Mason growled, but turned and left, nearly breaking the door off its hinges as he slammed it. He stomped back to his room, servants cowering away from him.

"Mason? Are you alright?"

Mason looked up to see Felicity approaching him, her eyebrows pulled together and a frown on her face. She tried to reach out to him, but he easily skirted around her, "Leave me alone."

"I heard Sophie got loose," she said.

Mason whirled and got in her face, "What did you just say?"

Felicity stood her ground, "I heard Sophie broke loose and is out in her terrible lycan form."

"She didn't break loose, she was kidnapped," Mason growled, resisting the urge to shove her to the ground. "My mate," Mason said without thinking, "my mate is gone."

Mason turned away from Felicity, waving a hand as if to say she wasn't worth it. Mason got to his room and took his anger out on all of his furniture, tearing it to shreds. He was in the middle of ripping apart his couch cushion when his door was opened.
