Matteo

She didn't give me an answer.

That was all I could think of as I sat on my sofa in my penthouse. It was six in the morning and I'd just gotten back from the gym. Today I'd decided it was safer for me to use the building's gym, because I didn't need more encounters with Bianca.

The last one had been enough to last for a couple years.

I grabbed a tennis ball from the coffee table in front of me and switched it from one hand to the other.

All I could think of was her right now. She'd stayed quiet. She hadn't denied me when I had toyed with her, saying something I never should have said.

It was all my fault. I had crossed the limit by stepping so close to her, testing her. But I hadn't expected her to react in the way she had either.

"Now why would I do that when I know you'd love to?"

I had asked.

"This is highly inappropriate Mr. Vensi."

That had been her side-stepped reply. And not "I'd rather die than have sex with you?!"

I'd gotten too interested in that perfectly wrapped box of fire. And that lollipop hadn't helped. She shouldn't have been doing that, licking it, swirling her tongue around it mindlessly in front of me. Then maybe I wouldn't have taken it and put it in my own fucking mouth.

I put the tennis ball back on the coffee table and placed my elbows on my knees, rubbing my temples.

She had looked so fascinating then, her eyes piercing daggers into mine, showing that if looks could actually kill I would have been a dead man. Her body heat radiating off her and surrounding me. And that fucking mouth, half open from the lollipop as she replied to my every word.

I let out a frustrated groan, stopping my thought process.

This had to stop now, I couldn't exploit my curiosity any longer, or it would lead to something very risky. For fuck's sake she was my future sister-in-law, I couldn't have any thoughts of her at all.

I got up from the sofa and walked upstairs to my room. It was time for a freezing cold shower, which would hopefully wash this shit away.

"Matteo!" Mama called as I passed through the living room. I slowed my steps, but still quietly kept moving. "Aye come here!" She shouted.

I let out a sigh before walking in the room. Sofia was on her phone as always, lounging on one sofa, as Mama sat on the other. "Yes?" I asked.

I forced Sofia to move her feet with a look, and she took her feet off the other half of the sofa with a frown. Unbuttoning my coat, I sat down, placing one arm across the top of the backrest.

"I wanted to talk to you about something." Mama said. That's when I noticed she was holding a small navy box in her hands.

"What's that?" I asked.

She looked down, brushing off imaginary dust particles. "This is..." She cleared her throat. "Your father gave me this when we got engaged." She opened the box very slowly as if it were the most delicate and important thing.

A small golden circle was placed in the box. The ring was pretty basic, with only a simple speck of a diamond in the middle. But from what I knew, there was a reason why it was this ring Papa had chosen to give to Mama. It was so it emphasized on her simplicity and beauty, which was the reason Papa had liked her the most. Because she wasn't like all the other gold-diggers who competed in everything and wanted everything a man could offer.
