"I don't like you."
The gym fell silent, deathly silent.
Until a certain energetic captain slammed open the gym doors. "Mad-dog! How could you!?" Oikawa gasped out, near tears at the declaration the second year made towards the beloved volleyball manager.
Kyoutani stared at the captain, first showing a face of shock and then one of anger. His face scrunched up angerly as he prepared to lunge at the captain, realizing that this was a setup and they were being listened to.
As the second year was about to pounce, a familiar lean arm was set out in front of him, blocking the mad dog's path.
"Take a walk, Kyoutani. We'll see you at training." The vice-captain and ace of the team voiced, avoiding looking at the second year in case he'd do something he'd regret tomorrow.
Without another word, the blonde stepped back and began to walk towards the exit, now opened thanks to Oikawa and his annoying flat ass. Kentarou glanced back towards his manager, showing no clear emotion that (L/N) could understand from the glance.
After Kyoutani left the darken gym, the two third years ushered around their heartbroken manager, immediately consoling the first year.
"Forget about him, (Y/N)-kun! Mad dog-chan wasn't worth it anyways!" Oikawa huffed, hugging his manager tightly until Iwaizumi pulled the annoying third year away. "I hate to admit it but Shittykawa is right, you're worth a lot more than what Kentarou could give you." The ace and 'mother' of the team sighed, patting the first year on the top of their head. "Trust me, (L/N)-san, I wouldn't lie to you."
The (h/c) manager stared up/down at the two third years, a blank expression on their face until tears immediately started to stream down his face, silent sobs racking from their ribcage. "You... You really mean it?" The first year cried, their legs breaking underneath all of the emotional pressure as they crashed to the ground, gripping onto the two third years in a quick attempt to save themselves. Without another word the two third years bent down, embracing the younger.
"Of course we mean it," Iwaizumi ushered out quietly, not wanting to overwhelm the first year as he tightened his arm comfortably around the manager, letting him cry into his and the captain's shoulders. "You're worth more than the world could offer." Oikawa finished for Iwaizumi, playing with the (h/c) strands to help calm down the young boy's mind.
The three sat on the floor of the gymnasium, letting the younger cry until a teacher ushered all the boys home, telling them it was getting late and that they better get home before it got too cold.
Iwaizumi and Oikawa promised the younger that they'd stay by (Y/N)'s side in case Kyoutani tried to talk to them, despising the idea of their favourite baby manager crying again.
But, unlucky for the third years, Kyoutani knew more about (Y/N) than they did, and knew where to find the first year after practice was let out on Wednesday.
"(L/N)? Wait for me," The second year grunted out, jogging to catch up with (Y/N). The shorter/taller male froze, unwillingly, and waited, too anxious to move a muscle.
"I didn't think you actually would." Kyoutani huffed, finally next to the first year after a weird invisible force field called 'the third year captains' kept him guarded all day. "Listen, I don't know what happened last night but I- I think you deserve an apology." The second grumbled out, not really used to these sorts of things. "I didn't know you liked me and no one ever has before, I didn't know how to react, I-"
"I don't want it," (L/N) muttered, finally mustering up a small bit of courage to speak. "I don't want an apology. What am I supposed to say to you, Kyoutani-san? 'Thank you for being straight and denying my feelings'? I don't... I don't want a heartless apology. I don't want an apology at all, actually." The first year manager sighed and wiped down their sweaty hands against the gym pants, trying to find any form of distraction to calm their beating heart. "You don't like me, that's fine. I'm not going to change that."
"(L/N), listen, I-"
"Please, Kyoutani-san. Let me heal," The boy whispered out, tears swelling up into his eyes again. "You can give me that much."
Kentarou paused, immediately shutting his mouth as he watched silent tears slip down the first year's face. He realised that, he's never seen (Y/N) cry before and the first time he ever has seen the first year cry, it was his fault.
The second year cleared his throat and nodded, turning away from the first year. "I'll talk to you again when you're ready." And with that, the 'constantly angry' Mad Dog-chan walked away, somewhat sulking at the fact he lost a friend.
(Y/N) stood still for a moment, wrapping his arms around himself as the tears fell faster and faster. Their heart beat quickened and suddenly their throat closed up.
How the fuck did he do that?
The first year didn't have much time to cry as four arms caught him in a gentle embrace, not saying anything as they all just silently let (Y/N) cry.
After some long needed silence and a good, tiring cry, Iwaizumi spoke up. "What did he do to you?" The third year muttered out, an irk mark appearing on his face almost like magic. "Tell me."
"Iwa-chan! This is no time for violence! (Y/N)-chan is clearly upset and needs some sweets! Here, my lovely (Y/N)-chan, have some chocolates." Oikawa ushered, handing over a bag of small round chocolates to the first year. "They're all yours!"
The first year's hands wrapped around the small see-through bag of chocolates, letting out a small laugh at the third year's antics.
The two third years bickered back and fourth, letting the first year enjoyed the regularity after a strange few days. After a while, the first year cleared their throat, gripping the small bag of treats to muster up the courage to speak again.
"Thank you... For everything." The (h/c) male yelped out, bowing his head respectfully towards the elders and also to hide the embarrassing red blush that now covered his entire face.
Oikawa and Iwaizumi immediately shut their mouths, looking over to their manager in shock. That was until Oikawa grinned and lunged at the sweet manager, hugging them tightly. "Oh you're so cute, (Y/N)-chan! You're my favourite!" The third year was grinning ear-to-ear, a small blush coating his face at the words (Y/N) spoke.
Iwaizumi cleared his throat and pet the first year's head, keeping his head turned away from the other two to hide the embarrassing blush that now covered his face as well. "Right, well... Anyways, we should get going before a teacher scolds us again. It's getting dark."
The third year and first year looked at the co-captain after hearing him speak, a small smile plastered on the first year and a giant grin the third year. "Iwa-chan, are you blushing?" The flat captain teased before getting thrown by the slightly shorter third year.
"No. Shut it, Shittykawa, let's just go."
The younger of the three laughed softly and nodded, feeling a little better after the events of today. All three of them began to walk towards the bus stop, chatting away as they tried to forget the previous conversation and the emotions that arouse from it.
