Liz's P.O.V.

I slipped quietly out of bed and tip toed to my window. The sound of it sliding open was seemingly loud against the stark quiet of the sleeping house. Parents can be so oblivious sometimes. Just because I'm grounded doesn't mean I won't find a way out of the house. I popped out the screen and hid it behind my dresser. My alarm clock said it was 1:00 a.m. ,the perfect time for sneaking out. I had about two hours to clear my thoughts before I needed to get back.

There was a small piece of roofing outside my second-story room so I slid carefully into the dark cool night. The moon and stars were covered by clouds and a nice chill breeze swept my hair behind me. I hopped off the roof grabbing onto the edge so I was hanging dangerously over the ground. The rope I had tied to the roof a few weeks ago still hung there. I sighed thankfully and and reached out with one hand to grab it. The trick was to hold tightly onto the rope and swing yourself at the wall. If your feet find purchase you're safe, if not, you fall to the ground becoming a pile of broken bones. Luckily for me, I had plenty of experience with this and made it safely to the ground.

My family lived in the part of town where there were no streetlights so it would be nearly pitch black outside for others but not for my trained eyes. I stupidly got lost in thought as I walked along in the dark. My life was very stressful because of finals, end of course exams, middle school graduation and, of course, my two secrets that were killing me from the inside out. My friends were starting to get suspicious and I nearly revealed myself at work countless times. Only my parents remained unsuspecting.

Suddenly an arm wrapped around my waist and I immediately went into alert mode. I grabbed the offender's arm and flipped him over my head. His eyes went wide before his back slammed against against the pavement. I whirled around, my senses sharp, and saw four others coming in for an attack. I instantly knew my chances of winning this fight were low considering the fact that I was outnumbered, hadn't been eating or drinking much, and was suffering from a lack of sleep but that wouldn't stop me from trying. I threw a punch to the boy on my left while kicking a guy behind me in a very painful place. The others looked surprised for a second about my fighting abilities but their cool emotionless masks came back once again. The guy I had flipped was back up by now but I continued fighting, receiving several punches to my side and one to my right eye. I knew there were going to be several bruises and my eye was going to swell shut for sure. The first guy grabbed me from behind again with a tight grip but it wasn't necessary because my strength was fleeing. The only thing left for me to do was slam my head back into the guy's face. He swore loudly but didn't loosen his grip until I felt a sharp sting in my neck. The blood from his nose pooled on my hair and neck as I slid to the ground. I looked down to see a long needle being removed from my neck. My eyes slid shut and I let darkness close in around me.
