Travis walked alone in the darkness, hearing only whispers from some great beyond.
At his feet, symbols began to glow. It was the same pentagram that had been following him this whole time. But it was the biggest he'd seen it, stretching out into the void in all directions, the light of the runes rising like knee-high walls of fire. And in the center of the pentagram, directly in front of Travis, stuck in the ground... was the Butcher's knife...
"... No," Travis growled. "I don't care what's happening, I'm not that guy. I'm not the Butcher!"
"T̸͉̏h̷̬́e̷̬͊n̸̦̎ ̵̱́y̷̲͆ȏ̶̱u̴̡̒.̷̞̄.̷͍̂.̵̹̚ ̸͍̆s̸̳͊h̷̯͘å̷̭l̵͖͒l̶͚̅.̷̝̆.̵͖̈́.̴̜̄ ̸̩̍f̸̲̑à̷̻l̸̫̒l̸̮͗.̵͖̈́"
Travis turned around to see the Devil himself, in all his glory.
Towering like a god, the Devil looked down on Travis, eyes like flames.
"Ì̵̫.̶̥̓.̷̛͚.̸̡́ ̵̥͝â̵̖ḿ̴̡.̸̭̈́.̸̺̓.̷̘͐ ̶̟̔f̵͍̂r̷͚̂e̶̟͘e̵̝͛d̸̹̏!̸̨͌"
The Devil took one clawed hand, and then the other, and dug into his chest. He tore his rib cage in half, and a vicious, unholy light spilled out. The force of it blinded Travis, forcing him back. But as he couldn't escape the nightmare world brought about by Alessa's powers, he couldn't escape the reach of the Devil's light.
But he felt another presence, something unlike he'd ever felt before. This wasn't the Devil, and it wasn't Alessa either. Something different... Something... even more powerful... And then he heard a voice, a voice he never thought he'd hear again.
"I'm sorry... son."
Travis risked opening his eyes for only a moment, but... he saw the face of his father. He held out to Travis a rope, the one he'd hung himself with. "... Dad..."
"My actions are not your burdens... I made a terrible mistake... but you can use my sins to do better."
The rope was in Travis' hands, and the image of Richard Grady faded. Returned was the Devil, lumbering closer. Travis threw the noose with a renewed determination, grappling one of the Devil's horns. The Devil roared and began to sever the noose's long rope, but Travis snapped at it, and it wound around the Devil's wrist, nearly pulling down the great beast.
The Devil reared its head, and let out a fierce bellow of fire, forcing Travis to let go of the rope. But once again as Travis was to be engulfed in the Devil's light, another force protected him. This time, the voice he heard was that of his mother.
"Fight! Travis! Don't let go!"
Travis saw her face, cheering him on. "But you were right! The Butcher, the Devil! They've been inside me since the beginning! This whole time and you saw it!"
"I was afraid, Travis. I saw things I didn't understand, and almost fell into the Devil's plans. But you're stronger, Travis." She held to him the gun he had killed her with. "You're a survivor! So, FIGHT, TRAVIS! LIVE!"
