Morrigan Brooks
Salem, like many other major cities, was full of witches. Yes, there were burnings here many moons ago, but they burned poor human women, may they rest in peace. It really isn't easy to burn an actual witch.
I was now running late for an appointment with Gianna Foreles, a witch who had a booming business as a tourist attraction as Madame Foreles, the clairvoyant woman, as well as an apothecary.
The clairvoyance wasn't a lie, which was very helpful in my specific predicament.
"Morrigan Brooks?" Gianna says when I open the door to her store. The little bell rang and I nodded.
"Thank you so much for seeing me," I say, extending my hand for her to shake.
"I understand you have a... unique problem?" She says, emphasising unique. I nod.
"My memories have been stolen. Three hundred years of memories. I saw a witch in Chicago and said that they were in a carrier. I was wondering if you could help me figure out who stole them or what the carrier is."
I could see the cogs turning in her head. "Sit," she says, gesturing to a barstool-type chair. "I won't be a minute."
I sit there waiting patiently as she collects ingredients and watch as she salts the table in front of me.
"Lie here, please," she says, gesturing to the table. I do as I'm told and I listen to her make a paste with other ingredients.
She walks over and spreads a fingernail's worth of the paste on my crown before placing her fingers on my temples and starting a chant. "Ostende mihi ostambe mibi ablata quod perierat vide ubi tenentur. Ostende mihi ostambe mibi ablata quod perierat vide ubi tenentur. Ostende mihi ostambe mibi ablata quod perierat vide ubi tenentur. Ostende mihi ostambe mibi ablata quod perierat vide ubi tenentur." Gianna says and my vision fades to black.
When my consciousness returns, I see Gianna with her back turned to me.
"What did you see?" I ask and she turns.
"A page from a book. It had this ethereal glow about it, but it was purple. Does that mean anything to you?"
"It might..." I say, noting the purple glow theme. "Thank you so much for your time, Gianna. Where do you want what I owe you?"
"Leave it on the bench." She says. "It was nice meeting you, Morrigan."
"You as well," I say, walking out and leaving an extra hundred.
FINDING these stupid memories was literally such an effort. I thought if I went to Salem, and saw some of my old friends- who also happen to be a part of a pretty prominent and powerful coven- they could help me out with figuring out who stole my memories and what 'inanimate carrier' they were being kept in.
I walked into O'Fraires bar, owned by Alissa O'Fraire, who also happen to be part of said coven. We talk about this and that for a while, before I bring up why I was in the area.
"Rory. I love you, but I don't know what else we can do. We've literally gone through every spell in all of the coven's grimoires. There's nothing." Alissa says. I just nod, smiling.
