Morrigan Brooks
I'D like to think I wasn't paranoid. In fact, I'd love to think that. I'd like to think that everything is all good and I don't overthink. I'd like to think my main concern was Klaus and Stefan bickering, but that was a flat-out lie.
I was looking over my shoulder every five steps like an idiot.
Ever since I made my early warning system, I was so paranoid that my father would come for me and try to harvest my power again.
My first question: How in hell is he alive? I can't say this about most things, but I distinctly remember killing him. Ripping his heart out. Dead as a fucking doorknob.
"Morrigan!" Stefan says forcefully. I snap out of my mental spiral to face both boys.
"Hmm?" I hum and they exchange glances.
"What do you want from Starbucks? It's the only coffee you're getting this morning since the plane only has alcohol and soft drinks." He explains.
"Oh, uh, just an iced latte please," I say before looking out the airport window again. There were planes constantly coming and going and I just watched them.
Stefan comes back a few minutes later and passes me my drink. "Great. Let's go." Klaus says. I follow him through the airport, then onto Klaus' private jet. I don't actually know if Klaus owns it, but whether he compelled someone to lend us their jet or he owns it, I wasn't complaining.
The plane ride went by quickly. It was, in reality, two hours, but it felt like half an hour. I was, once again, overthinking and my train of thought went in a downward spiral very quickly.
"Mor," Klaus says, throwing a wooden stirrer at me. I caught it since I saw it out of the corner of my eye and glared at him.
"Yes?"
"You are very grumpy this morning." He says, making me roll my eyes. "We've landed. Come on."
When he says 'morning', it was in the loosest sense of the word. I push myself up and try to leave my worries on the plane. It was dark outside and right as we stepped out of the plane, there was a black SUV waiting for us.
"Don't tell me you got bored of Betty?" I say with faux outrage in my voice.
"I told you, you cannot name my car Betty, and no I didn't get bored of it, it's just going to take a day or so to get here." Klaus grinds out and I just smile, knowing his feelings about the name.
I get in the back of the SUV and lie down. Despite the flight, I've had about three hours of sleep in the last two days combined. Car naps are always the worst, but beggars can't be choosers, I guess.
I NEVER did get to sleep. It was a forty-five-minute drive from the airport to wherever we were going and I just lay there silently.
The boys didn't talk, though that was expected so the only sound was the hum of the engine and the occasional whoosh of a passing car.
"Welcome back to Chicago, Stefan," Klaus says. I internally groan, knowing I'll have to move soon.
They get out of the car and Klaus knocks on the window my head was closest to. I flip him off before getting out of the car.
"What are we doing here?" Stefan asks and I wonder why in the world we're in a warehouse.
"I know how much you loved it here." Was all Klaus says. "Bringing back memories of the good old ripper days?" He says, opening an industrial-sized door and looking into the horizon, our view being the city line.
