If you want to get into the mood of this, go and listen to "Stay Gold" by Stevie Wonders and "Another Love" by Tom Odell closer to the end of the chapter though don't if it'll make you cry enjoy! 😊

"Ponyboy!" Mrs. Curtis exclaimed as she placed the plate of eggs onto the table.

"Sodapop! Could you go wake up your kid-brother!" She called as the boy nodded, rushing back towards the bedroom despite just coming out of the shower.

"Bye Honey, I'll see you later," Mr. Curtis said, giving his wife a quick kiss before heading out.

"Darrel! Where are you? You're gonna be late!" Mrs. Curtis sighed as she made sure that the boys all had a packed lunch as well as their school bags.

"Coming Ma!" The boy shouted as his two younger brothers made their way to the table.

"Ponyboy hurry up and eat your breakfast so you can get changed. And Sodapop, put on a shirt for Pete's sakes!" She exclaimed as the boy nodded.

"Don't worry 'bout nothing Ma," Ponyboy replied sleepily as he rubbed his eyes before quickly eating breakfast.

"Thanks for the food, Ma! I'll see ya later!" Darry shouted as he snatched up the plate, slung his bag over his shoulder and headed towards the front door, giving his mother a quick hug before leaving.

"Drive safe!" She said as the boy grinned, giving her a thumbs.

"Why can't you boys be more organized like your brother? You'll be late to school!" She sighed, although the other two knew she wasn't trying to hurt their feelings by comparing them to their older brother.

"'Ts alright Ma! Just calm down! We'll make it just fine, right Ponyboy?" Sodapop cracked a grin, contagious enough for the other to grin to until all three of 'em were in a much better mood than before.

"Alright, now get your butts outta here. Take the food on the road," Mrs. Curtis sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose.

"What'll I ever do with you two," she mumbled as the boys stumbled out of their chairs; falling over each other as they scrambled to get ready for school.

Sodapop rushed over to the bedroom, snatched up the first shirt he could see and threw it on as Ponyboy did the same.

"Glory do we like to rush," Soda commented as Pony nodded, tugging on a shoe.

"You brush teeth yet?" Soda asked as Ponyboy shook his head.

"I'll just smoke a weed, no biggie," he said before adding, "Don't tell Mom."

"Don't tell me what?" Mrs. Curtis asked as she appeared through their doorway.

"Oh it was nothing. Don't you worry about it," Pony said and slapped some grease onto his hair to style it.

"Make sure to brush your teeth, boys," she said and glanced over at Ponyboy before walking back over to the kitchen to clean up the table as the front door opened and slammed shut.

"Well howdy, Mrs. Curtis," Two-Bit grinned as he took off his hat in a polite manner before putting it back on.

"And a goodmornin' to you too, Two-Bit," she replied, setting down a plate of eggs.

"Help yourself to some. Got plenty to go around," she offered as the boy nodded.

"Gee am I starvin! Thanks a lot, Mrs. C!" Two-Bit exclaimed, pulling up a chair at the table and taking a bite - it wasn't chocolate cake, but eggs were in chocolate cake, so to Two-Bit, it was chocolate cake.
