Before we start i'd just like to say if anyone has any tips on how to bridge inner dialogue back to the main story pls tell 👉👈
Polnareff flung himself onto the bed, not even bothering to get changed into something more comfortable—words couldn't describe just how much he needed sleep right now. Avdol was also incredibly tired, although he intended to take a shower before finally getting some rest.
Polnareff watched as Avdol flung a towel over his shoulder and entered the bathroom. It always amazed him how Avdol was always so calm, no matter the situation. They were truly perfect together—yin and yang, each of their strengths compensated for the other's weakness. And yet Polnareff knew they would never be together. He had seen countless times, the way women swarmed around his companion and Avdol would flirt back with all of them. Well, sure, his way of flirting was just being nice to them, but it was enough to make anyone swoon, let alone Polnareff.
Polnareff had thought he would never love anyone again after Shelly's death, especially not romantically— and yet this charming Egyptian had stolen his heart, only to crush it.
It had happened only a couple days ago. The Crusaders had arrived at a motel similar to the one they were staying at currently. Joseph had rented three rooms for the five of them to share—one room for the old man himself, the two rooms for two to share. Polnareff had immediately jumped to Avdol (whom he didn't know he had a crush on at the time), and threw his arms around him in a hug. Avdol had chuckled warmly. "Me and Polnareff will share a room then. Kakyoin, Jotaro, you two share a room as well."
Kakyoin had just nodded, and Jotaro had tipped his hat before saying "Good grief. If I didn't know any better, I'd say you two were a couple."
The two men's faces had immediately lit up a bright red, and Avdol pushed Polnareff off. Polnareff had tried to laugh it off, but everytime he looked back at Avdol he was met with an uneasy glance.
Luckily Avdol soon went back to normal, though everytime they touched (be it accidentally or purposefully), Avdol would look away, an uncomfortable expression painted on his beautiful face.
And it would hurt. Everytime Avdol rejected him, it slowly split Polnareff's already shattered heart apart.
Kakyoin (whom he had confided in), told him to just ask Avdol if he was gay, and if he said yes, then to confess. However, Polnareff didn't want cause even more harm to their friendship. So he would suffer in silence.
Avdol came back out of the shower, humming some song Polnareff didn't recognize. Polnareff flopped down abruptly and closed his eyes, trying to look like he was asleep; unfortunately Avdol saw right through it. "Jean, I know you're not asleep. You never go to sleep with your hair up."
Polnareff sighed. "Just tired."
Avdol sat on his side of the bed. "Do you want me to brush it for you?"
Polnareff blushed a little at the prospect of Avdol getting his fingers into his hair and tugging it, but then he remembered that brushes existed. Admittedly he was kinda disappointed, but he nodded anyways.Polnareff got out detangler and his hair brush from his bag and handed it to Avdol, whom was now sat criss-cross apple sauce in the middle of the bed. Polnareff hesitated before getting back on the bed and sitting in front of the Egyptian. Avdol hummed softly as he started to spritz a bit of detangler into his hair.
Polnareff sat there awkwardly, not sure what to do. He toyed with the ankle hem on his pants and flexed the muscles on his legs. Soon enough though, the frenchman brought himself to relax as his silver locks slowly cascaded down.
A warm, happy feeling trickled down Polnareff's spine as Avdol untangle his hair. He wished it could stay like this forever—To feel safe and fufilled, with Avdol by his side.
He leaned his head back slightly, trying his best to push the depressing thoughts. "So..." started Avdol, interrupting the silence. "Have you been doing well, Jean?"
Have I? pondered Polnareff. He couldn't decide whether to lie or tell the truth. Avdol sighed, starting to brush the frenchman's more tenderly. "No, things have been more stressful lately."
Avdol hummed in agreement. "It's...been hard on me."
Avdol clicked his tongue. "Me as well. I'm always worrying that...someone is going to die. Or get injured beyond repair. And that I could've saved them, if it happened. I know I could."Polnareff thought about losing Avdol or Kakyoin, or anyone else. "I...I remember when I thought you died. I felt so scared. But mostly I felt guilty that I wasn't able to do anything."
Avdol clicked his tongue. "I'll admit, I was a bit annoyed when Kakyoin said to not tell you but I suppose it was for the best."
"Well, we're gonna find Dio's mansion soon, and then we're gonna kill that bastard, and then we'll be safe."
"I can only hope. Say, Polnareff, where will you go once the trip is over?"
"I mean... I guess I'll go back to France. I'm not sure what I'll do there though."
"Well, you could always stay here in Egypt. Or maybe I could expand my tarot business to France. I'm sure there wouldn't be much competition."
Polnareff smiled sheepishly. "Non, I wouldn't want you to have to risk your business. I'd rather stay in Egypt. I enjoy it here."
Avdol smiled. "Great. I'd miss you a lot if I never was able to see you again. We only have 5 days left so... Please don't die. I've grown very fond of you."Polnareff whipped his body around. "I love you too." he blurted.
"You... what?"
"Oh, shit. I-I didn't mean that."
"No, Polnareff... You're the love of my life. I adore you."
The frenchman placed his hands on Avdol's shoulders. "You really mean it?"
The Egyptian chuckled, moving Polnareff's hands off his shoulders and pressing his forehead against the other's. "Of course. How could somebody not love you?"
Polnareff's face turned a light pink. "Can I, uh, kiss you?"
Avdol smiled. "Yes."Polnareff puckered his lips awkwardly, before mentally deciding 'Fuck it', and crashed his lips onto Avdol's. His eyes fluttered closed, and he wrapped his arms around his new lover.
After a couple of seconds, their lips parted, and they just grinned at eachother. Avdol took Polnareff's hand in his own and held it, tracing his fingers on the design of his palm. "I wish we could stay like this forever, Jean."
Polnareff felt tears re-emerge from his eyes, another episode of sobs imminent. He opened his eyes, staring at the ashes on the ground, which were the only remainders of Avdol and Iggy. "I...I wish we could stay that way too..."
