Y/N gets a job as the gardener at the Collinwood mansion, and at first Barnabas doesn't seem to like them, but after a while he grows quite fond of them.
As the taxi approaches the Collinwood mansion I feel my anxiety getting worse. I had been hired to be a live-in gardener there and I was excited to finally have landed a job doing what I love, but at the same time my anxiety was getting the better of me. "What if they don't like me? Or what if they aren't satisfied with the work I do and they end up firing me?" I thought to myself as the taxi stopped. I debated whether or not I should just tell the driver to drive me back to the airport, but eventually I got out of the taxi and got my suitcase from the trunk. I paid the driver and thanked him, before slowly making my way up the driveway and through the old rusty gate. To get my mind to think about something else, I looked around at the garden and tried to imagine what the garden would look like after I had cleaned it up and planted some new plants.
I took a deep breath before going up the few steps and knocking on the door. I took a few steps back and waited for someone to answer it. "Are you the new gardener?" I heard a male voice ask from behind me. I turned around to see who it was and was greeted by a pale and tall man. He had dark hair and he was wearing what looked like a very expensive and vintage suit. His eyes seemed lifeless and it felt like he was staring right through me. "Yes, I am. My name is Y/N Y/L/N" I answered and looked away from him. I didn't want to look him in the eyes because to be honest he looked scary. "Pleased to meet you Y/n, my name is Barnabas Collins. The others are out at the moment so I'll have to show you around". He replied and walked past me.
I followed him inside and he showed me around the parts of the house that he deemed "essential" for me to know. The last room he showed me was my bedroom and I was pleasantly surprised when I walked inside. After he had turned on the light I was greeted by a room with sage green wallpaper and cream white curtains. The room was decorated in a soft Victorian aesthetic. "Thank you for showing me arou- oh he's gone" I said as I turned around to look at him.As the weeks went by I got to know the family better and it seemed like almost everyone there was happy to have me there. Barnabas had been very cold and a little rude to me the entire time, but I figured that he just needed some time to get used to me.
Elizabeth would sometimes help me with cleaning things up, but most of the time I worked alone. Today was one of those days where I worked alone and the entire time I couldn't shake the feeling that I was being watched. I would look around from time to time, but I couldn't see anyone or anything so I figured that I was just being paranoid. It was a cloudy day and it was starting to get foggy, so I figured that was probably why I was feeling like this. I propped a ladder against a big tree and climbed up to the top in order to get a plastic bag that had gotten stuck up there. The ladder was a little short so I had to climb the rest of the way up. Climbing up went well, but on the way down it felt like someone was pushing me and trying to get me to fall. I did my best to keep my balance, but at some point the invisible force pushed me so hard that I lost my balance and fell. I tried to grab one of the thick branches, but as I grabbed on to it, it disintegrated and I kept falling. I screamed and closed my eyes preparing for impact, but I never hit the ground. Instead I felt myself slowing down, so I opened my eyes and saw that I was slowly floating toward the ground. I landed on a soft patch of grass and after getting over the initial shock of what had just happened I looked around and saw someone who looked like Barnabas disappearing around the back of the house. I sat there for a while trying to make sense of what had just happened, but I couldn't. I slowly got up from the ground and walked over to my equipment and tried to continue my work.
For the next couple days I couldn't shake the feeling that I was being watched whenever I went outside to work in the garden, but whenever I looked around I couldn't see anything. I figured that I was probably just being paranoid due to what had happened earlier, and kept doing my job.
