The memory of sand from across the sea invoked,
the gritty scratching at every pore and clawing in every crevasse of skin.
As abuse and shame was heaped upon a gifted child.
The scent of dry despair and death to an abomination.
They realized their arrogance too late.
A mother's retribution painted amber red and
Even the wind doesn't remember their names.
Her listening soul so broken only silence could fill the canyon left,
And that silence is filled with the whispered words of the world,
Rushing into and eating the stone of her resolve like a river.
Beyond the noise, beats a heart like a beacon.
The one she fears most. Her Mate, her hated hope.
If she lets him in, she would have to break her own armor,
then she would have to grieve him and no longer hear his heart
As she no longer hears the hearts of all who died in the sand.
During her time across the sea.
