(one month ago)
Damian was a friend of mine. I often visited him for business purposes. We had our ups and downs but I found myself continuing the work in hopes of seeing his maid, Arabella. I never liked the way he treated her. He paid her very little and only fed her bread and milk. She had no choice but to put up with him since she had no family and she was poor. It made me want to take care of her. But, I was told to not speak to her. I could only admire her from afar. She barely made eye contact with me. When she did, her cheeks would turn a soft shade of pink. She was beautiful and I deeply wanted to tell her that.
One afternoon, I would visit Damian again. I found him yelling at Arabella, telling her to leave. She was frightened and didn't know what to do. He told us that we would have to evacuate and that there was a disease spreading around the area. He said that it was too risky for us to be around each other. Before I could say anything, there was a knock at the door. Arabella opened it and to our surprise, there was a doctor. He wore leather gloves with a long coat along with a mask. The mask looked like the face of a bird. It had a long beak and round eyes. He said that we needed to separate and that it wasn't safe anymore. At that moment, I looked at Arabella. I didn't want to leave her alone.
When the man left, I asked her to stay with me. She said that she didn't want to cause me any trouble. I told her that she had nothing to worry about. Which, led to a promise. I promised her that I would take care of her until the evacuation was over.
If only I had known what that would lead to.
