One evening while Komi was at home relaxing in her room, reading a book on developing communication skills, she was surprised when she suddenly received a text message. Upon opening her phone, she saw that it was from Monika.
Monika: Hey, everyone! I thought it might be a good idea to establish a new group chat for all of us now that we have a new member!
Monika: Just so you're aware Komi, we keep a group chat just so we're all aware of when we're NOT having meetings. And if you all would like to arrange activities outside of school, this is the place to do it!
Komi's eyes widened in surprise. She was being included in a group chat for the first time? How exciting! This was new, uncharted territory. She began urgently sifting through her book for tips, but she wasn't able to find anything before another message came in.
Natsuki: Hey that's actually a good idea. I didn't think of that
Yuri: I appreciate you doing your best to make sure we all feel included
Sayori: Yay, our group chat is expanding! Komi has joined the party! 3
Komi's fingers began to twitch nervously. She wanted to send some kind of response too, but what should she say? She should express happiness for being in the group, right? Yes, of course. That's what everyone else was doing...
But too late! Another message had already come in!
Alex: Doki Doki Group Chat?
Natsuki: What?
Monika: You're weird Alex lol
Now the moment had passed. Now it would seem rude to send the message that she wanted to say. It would look like she was ignoring the shift in conversation, right? But she had nothing to contribute to that.
Komi: Hello everyone. How are you doing this evening?
Sayori: Hey Komi! I'm great! How are you?
Natsuki: I'm good. Just chillin
Alex: I'm just chillin out, maxin, relaxin all cool over here
Komi: I'm good too. I'm just doing some evening reading
Yuri: I'm doing well, Komi. Thank you for asking.
Sayori: Ooo, whatcha readin Komi?
Alex: Probably something erotic lol
Natsuki: Yea, your mom's autobiography
Alex: LOL gottem!
Monika: You two are such children lol
Yuri: What a strange conversation
Sayori: It's funny though! It's like being at school in the club but in text form!
Komi's head was starting to spin a little. Every time she started trying to compose a message so she could participate in the conversation, the topic would shift to something else. They were all much faster and more quick-witted in their responses than her.
Sayori: Ooh hey Monika! Monika!
Monika: Yeeesss?
Sayori: You said we could make plans to hang out on her rght?
Sayori: Right?
Monika: yeah
Sayori: Well Natsuki and I were planning to go to the mall this weekend! You're all invited if you can make it!
Natsuki: Yea totally. It'll be fun. We're gonna go Saturday afternoon, have lunch and hit some different shops
Yuri: I appreciate the invitation, but I will have to decline.
Yuri: My family and I will be out of town this weekend
Sayori: Aww booo
Yuri: Forgive me. I'll certainly try to make myself available next time
Natsuki: It's all good. Have fun
Monika: I'll have to take a rain check too, sorry! I already have plans
Sayori: Nooo are you going out of town too?
Monika: Ahaha
Monika: No, I just already have some plans for Saturday afternoon
Alex: If I got to the mall with a group of girls, I will DEFINITELY look gay, so I'mma pass
Natsuki: Well you are gay so it's all good
Alex: Shhh don't tell anyone
Yuri: What's wrong with being gay?
Alex: It's gay
Natsuki: Well Alex is rooted out for the mall trip obviously
Alex: Yeah sorry I got stuff to do Saturday anyways otherwise I'd be down
Natsuki: Looks like it'll just be you and me Sayori
Sayori: :,(
Komi: I would like to join you two
Sayori: :O
Sayori: Yayyy Komi saves the day!
Natsuki: We'll meet you around noon in the food court!
Komi: I am looking forward to it
The chat continued on for a little longer, but Komi was already exhausted just from the few messages she was able to slip in there. Keeping up with a group conversation was even more difficult than just talking one on one, even in text form!
However, Komi had managed to successfully get herself included in some plans with friends this weekend. She considered that a win.
Just as Komi was unwinding and getting ready to fall asleep, she was hit with another notification. She looked at her phone and saw that another group chat had been started.
Monika: Hey! This is our alternate group chat just in case!
Yuri: What do we need an alternate chat for?
Sayori: Okay!
Natsuki: Sure...there seems to be someone missing from this alternate chat tho
Monika: I'm aware...
Sayori: Is something wrong, Monika?
Monika: No no. I was just TOLD that I should make this 'just in case'
Yuri: Just in case of what?
Monika: I don't know tbh, but here we are. We don't really need to use this chat ahaha
Natsuki: Fair enough. Well I'm heading to bed. Goodnight everyone
Sayori: Goodniiiight
Yuri: Everyone enjoy the rest of your evening
Monika: Goodnight everyone. I'll see you at the club meeting
Komi: Good night
