Madelyn and Cuddy walked together through the halls and took an elevator up to the department of Oncology where Dr. Wilson worked.

A couple floors later, they arrived at the Oncology Center, one of the most coveted research facilities in the state. Cuddy led Madelyn down a narrow, windy hallway with offices lined up and down like dominoes. At the other end lied the biggest office–Wilson's office.

"Here we are!" Cuddy announced before knocking on the door.

Madelyn stood slightly behind Cuddy as if she were a shield– she was nervous. Madelyn and Wilson hadn't talked much since the last time they saw each other which, at this point, was almost two years ago. Madelyn had still been in medical school at Dartmouth, while Wilson was already established in his career at Princeton-Plainsboro, however, they did not meet at the hospital:

By chance, they had both volunteered for a youth health convention in which licensed and in-training medical professions educated children about the significance and relationship between physical and mental health. Wilson was asked to speak throughout the event, while Madelyn was part of the demonstration committee. During a demonstration of drug abuse awareness, they met after the show, and he applauded her performance. While she was only 26 at the time, and Wilson was in his late thirties, they found much more in common with each other than just a love for the medical field. They both loved music, movies, and the performing arts; Madelyn was trained in classical and opera, and a dancer, while Wilson dabbled in drums, but preferred watching art from the audience at the local theaters. After multiple failed marriages, Wilson finally felt like he found someone on his wavelength; someone who could appreciate some of the smaller joys in life without doubting the possibilities of what's to come. Madelyn, on the other hand, had never met a man so kind and down to earth; Wilson always appeared like he had it all together, and always put others before himself. Madelyn couldn't resist him, or falling in love with the kind of person she aspired to be. She admired him the way people admire nature or a painting–– she thought of him as a wholesome and unique person all too worthy of love.

After one night of a shared physical and emotional connection, it became clear to Madelyn that she felt undeserving of his love. Wilson was a good person, she knew, but she felt out of her league. Madelyn didn't want to get attached to Wilson, or the other way around. If she kept seeing him, she worried he'd eventually see something in her he wouldn't like, and he didn't deserve that. He deserved to be happy, and she feared she couldn't give that to him. She was still healing from her past, but Wilson couldn't know that.

Madelyn cleared her throat as quietly as she could and ran her fingers through her shiny brunette blowout curls. A second later, the door opened.

"H-Hi, Madelyn." Wilson stuttered nervously, his gaze darting between Madelyn and Cuddy. "And Dr. Cuddy.

"Hi, James," Madelyn replied with a grin, "looks like your suggestion to apply here worked!" Wilson couldn't help but smile back,

"Wow, yeah. I can see that." Wilson said awkwardly, scratching the back of his head.

Cuddy leaned on the door a little, "We wanted to personally thank you for suggesting Dr. Gilmore work for Princeton-Plainsboro." Cuddy patted the side of his upper arm.

Wilson nodded in agreement, "My pleasure. She'll fit right in here." he added truthfully, keeping his gaze on Madelyn who was as–if not more–beautiful than he remembered. "So," Wilson began, "you got the neurology fellowship?"

Cuddy looked confused, and turned to look at Madelyn.

"Not exactly," Madelyn replied, "I ended up applying for a more hands-on job in diagnostics."

"Oh?" Wilson thought aloud, crossing his arms, intrigued.

"Dr. Gilmore is going to be working with House's team." Cuddy told Wilson whose eyes immediately widened. He looked genuinely surprised at her statement.

"House?!" Wilson practically shouted in what sounded like disbelief.

Cuddy laughed, "Oh, Wilson come on! Don't make her anxious..."

"No, no, House will do that all on his own." Wilson responded, anxiety in his voice. Madelyn stood between the two of them, confused.

"What's this about Dr. House? Should I be worried?" Madelyn asked, looking at Wilson with her dark doe eye. She then looked at Cuddy who slightly shook her head in Madelyn's direction.

"Why don't you see for yourself..." Cuddy suggested.

"Oh this will be good." Wilson sighed, gesturing for the two women to exit his office first.
