The rest of Dr. Madelyn Gilmore's first day was probably the best time she'd had in a long time.

After she and Foreman returned from the in-home inspection, House insisted that she help Chase in the radiology laboratory. Together, they went over a couple of MRI images in which Chase pointed out certain discrepancies between the various MRI machines, but realized Madelyn was indeed already well aware. Chase also learned that his new co worker had Australian family members, and she'd spent a good deal of time in the outbacks and along the sunny beaches like him.

Afterwards, Madelyn was paired with Dr

Afterwards, Madelyn was paired with Dr. Remy "Thirteen" Hadley, and the two of them–with Foreman's help–began biological testing for a last-minute patient. It wasn't long before Madelyn noticed Thirteen's headstrong-ness and unwaveringly confidence. But she was also sweet.  Madelyn admired how studious and generous her approach was to medicine. In their interactions, Madelyn and Thirteen could read each other well, and there seemed to be an instant bond that indicated that (at least professionally) the two young women would make a great duo.

Although her first day had proven to be a success, Dr. Madelyn Gilmore couldn't help but wonder where her boss was in the midst of everything. Upon their first meeting, Madelyn knew there was something different about Dr. House, neither bad nor good. Just different.

Her mind spinning and her body somewhat restless, she wondered whether the feeling about her boss that sat on the pit of her stomach was just nerves, or if she was on to something else. Could it have been something about the way House's eyes pierced you when he made contact? Or the way a room's energy amplifies when he's present?

He was neither a negative nor positive presence to her yet, but he fascinated her. Madelyn reflected on earlier that same day during the team's attempts at finalizing a diagnosis, and how effortless it seemed for House to dispute and suggest the possibilities. House was undeniably smart, and his wit somehow made him charming. Madelyn liked him so far and how he ran his team, even if his methods deviated from what she'd expected.

With utmost content, Madelyn couldn't help but grin to herself. The day, while only the first, had gone impeccably. For her first job out of medical school, Madelyn felt proud of herself. This is where and what she wanted to be.

Reflecting on her gratitude, she reached for her phone that sat across from her on her cluttered coffee table and decided to send House a message:

Madelyn> "Thank you for today. I really appreciate this opportunity."

Back at her apartment after the long day, Madelyn lied sprawled out on her couch barely moving. She was dressed in her pink, velour joggers and an oversized shirt that she wrapped herself in as she sunk deeper into the cushions. Her true crime YouTube video was just about to expose the culprit when she was startled by a knock at her door.

It was close to seven-thirty in the evening, and she wasn't used to her neighbors stopping by. But, she peeled herself from the couch, walked towards the front of her apartment, past a mountainous bookcase of academic textbooks, and then finally reached the bright blue front door. As her arm gently swung the door open hoping she wasn't going to have to sort through mixed up mail, the doorway revealed something else:

A tall, casually-dressed Wilson with an adorable bouquet of daffodils stood at her doorstep.
