Igor Karkoff considered himself a fairly powerful and imposing wizard. After all, the Dark Lord's followers were chosen carefully. But after watching Hecate handle her year-mates with ease, he acknowledged that he could not have done so. The girl presided over her breakfast table like a queen over her kingdom.

At the opposite end if the table from Hecate, Karkoff could see the beginnings of hero worship on the children's eyes. He remembered feeling the same way about the Dark Lord in his younger years.

That concerned the Headmaster. He knew what he had been willing to do for Lord Voldemort. It wouldn't bode well for the whole of the Wizarding World if she became the next Dark Lady...

As the man watched, Professor Kozak approached the table to hand out schedules. Heiress Potter-Volkov took hers and immediately scanned it to see what classes she had. Then she lit it on fire.

"What is your impression of her, Igor?" Vladimir Haugen asked, breaking him from his thoughts.

Karkoff glanced at him then back at Hecate. "She is very powerful. If anyone dares defy her, everyone will note her wrath. Heiress Potter-Volkov has great potential."

Haugen chuckled. "That she does. I look forward to teaching her. It may be a great insight to her thoughts," the man met Igor's eyes. "She may have some of the same ideas as our Lord."

This brought a smile to Karkoff's face. "Wouldn't that be a sight? The beacon of the Light professing the Old Ways. Albus Dumbledore may just die."

*************

Hecate studied her schedule carefully. Then she burned it with a twitch of her wand. No one else needed to know her exact schedule. If they weren't smart enough to figure it out, they didn't deserve to be around her.

"Ivet, Ivalio, what do your schedules look like?" Hecate asked her new acquaintances. The two quickly showed her their identical slips of paper.

"What about you, Heiress Potter-Volkov?" Ivet inquired.

"It is the same. Now, I want you two to go around the table and send anyone who has a schedule that differs from ours and send them to me."

Ivalio and Ivet both seemed a bit confused by the request, but they did what was requested of them. Halfway down the table, Ivalio found a student with a different schedule. Moments later, Ivet found another.

They both sent the students towards Hecate then carried on. The brunette waited until all of the students that had different schedules got to the where she was before she started speaking.

"Why do you all have a different schedule from the others?" Hecate's monotone voice sent shivers down each of their spines. The students glanced at each other. No one answered. "Well?"

"I'm muggle-born," one of them timidly announced. There was a murmur of agreement amongst the gathered first years. "We don't have a personal studies class, we have a wizarding culture class instead."

Hecate scanned their faces. One in particular looked rather familiar. "You," she pointed at him. The boy stepped forward. "You are Connor Averys, are you not?" He nodded. She frowned. Spinning, she glared at the Headmaster.

"Hecate, what are you about to do?" The orphan's use of her first name did not go unnoticed by the girl or any of those that could hear him.

Feeling the anger directed towards him, Karkoff looked out over the students. Seeing Hecate glaring at him, he paled. This would not turn out well. "You'll have to excuse me, Vladimir, it seems I have already managed to awaken Heiress Potter-Volkov's anger this morning."

Professor Haugen chuckled. "Good luck, Igor. You'll need it if she's anything like our Lord. I just hope you remain sane though her time here."

"Don't speak that evil on me, Haugen. You know how much power words hold." Woth those words, Karkoff stood and moved towards the angered Hecate.

When he got within ten feet of her, she spoke. "Igor Karkoff, what were you thinking?" Her voice was as cold as ice as she asked the question. "Why didn't you tell me that Averys was a wizard? I would have taken him under my wing."

"That's what this is about? Heiress Potter-Volkov, why are you so upset about not knowing that Averys was a wizard?" Karkoff's confusion showed in his eyes.

Hecate let a tidbit of her aura slip from her control. "Because, he's one of MY people. All three of us know what I mean when I say that. Were you intentionally not giving me all that I needed to know?" She snarled the words at him as her aura grew stronger.

Viktor approached the two who seemed to be locked into a staring contest. "Hecate, what is going on here? What did the Headmaster do?"

The power oozing from the heiress pushed back everyone near her. "Igor," she said calmly. "If you persist in not telling me everything that I need to know, I will resort to...unsavory... methods of getting my information. Do I make myself clear?"

The man nodded sharply. Hecate pulled her aura back under wraps. The brunette turned back to the gathered group. "Averys, you will be in charge of this group. If anything happens, you tell me. Understand?"

"Yes, Hecate."

Her eyes turned cold. "Don't call me by my first name. It's Heiress Potter-Volkov. Viktor, will you come with me and show me where the combat training room is?"

Viktor nodded. "Of course. Right this way." He led Hecate back through the doors of the Main Hall and down a few corridors. "What was all of that about, Hecate?" He inquired.

"It was mostly just a power display. But it was also that I know that boy, and Igor didn't tell me that he was coming here."

"I see...?" Krum didn't sound certain as he said the words.

Hecate chuckled. "It's something I've always done. Power displays are kind of my thing. You'll see as you get to know me."

"Right. Anyway, we're here."

"Thank you for the escort, Viktor. I do not wish to take up any more of your time than is necessary." The girl gave a small bow out of respect for the third year.

The boy grinned at her. "It was a pleasure to assist you, Hecate. I expect I will see you later on today." With those words of parting, Viktor returned her bow and left the room.
