"Rule 3304... Do not make assumptions about others" Lan Qiren read from a scroll while stroking his goatee.
Everyone is either not listening or sleeping with their eyes open. Only one student seems to be paying attention. Fair skin, golden eyes and long dark hair perfectly draped on his back. Lan Wangji. On the other hand, Wei Wuxian was full-on yawing while resting his head on his hand. This didn't get past Lan Qiren's sharp eyes.
"Wei Wuxian!" then turns his attention to everyone else. "I'm reading these because no bothers to read them for themselves." Seeing that Wei Wuxian was still slacking Qiren picked on him and started to question him which didn't surprise Wei Ying one bit.
"Wei Ying since you seem disinterested let me ask you, Are yao, demons, ghosts and monsters the same thing?" Wei Ying smirked.
"No."
"Why not? How are they differentiated?"
Wei Wuxian looked forward and listed how each of them was different from the other. Lan Qiren then moved to a different set of questions.
"What was the profession of the progenitor of QingheNie Sect?" Qiren asked.
"Butcher"
Two more questions which Qiren asked and Wei Ying answered correctly everyone was hoping Qiren would be satisfied. "Ha, this never gets old," Wei Wuxian thought smiling in victory.
Yet, Lan QiRen spoke, "As a disciple of the Yunmeng JiangSect, you should have been very familiar with these and known them by heart since long ago, so there is nothing to be proud of even if you answered correctly. Let me ask you again—there is an executioner with parents, a wife, and children, but before he died, he executed more than one hundred people. He suddenly died in the public and, to punish him for his deeds, he was left on the streets for seven days. With the repressed energy of resentment, he started to haunt and kill. What should be done?"
Wei Wuxian stopped. He swallowed hard. Everyone else started to panic noticing Wei Wuxian not responding. Lan QiRen scolded, "Why are you looking at him? Think about this as well. Don't open your books!" The disciples took their hands away from the books that they intended on quickly flipping through.
"First, liberate; second, suppress; third, eliminate." Wei Wuxian suddenly spoke just when Qiren was about to move to someone else. "The initial approach is to utilize the gratitude of his relatives and grant his dying wish, set free what he could not let go of. If it fails, suppress it. If the crimes were extremely wrongful, and its energy of resentment does not dissipate, exterminate it completely. The cultivation world should precisely keep to this order of measures. No errors should be allowed."
"Correct"
Jiang Cheng stared at Wei Ying. If they were in their original timeline Wei Ying would have spoken about the resentment.
"However, there is a fourth way..." Wei Ying says just as Lan Qiren was about to continue.
Everyone's attention goes back to him. Though he's not looking at anyone.
"And what is this fourth way..." the atmosphere suddenly becomes tense and I really want him to stop.
"Resentment..."
