No one knew anything about the shield hero that had arrived with the rest of them a few days prior. All they knew was he was tanned, wore clothes that looked extremely worn that were covered in stains, and that he was the only one to be proficient with silverware.

Myne had tried to talk to him, only getting a thousand yard stare in return before he tipped his hat and wandered off, clearly intent to leave her behind.

When he did have to talk to someone, he leaned in and whispered in their ear what he needed to. The eyes of the one he was speaking to would go wide with confusion, something clearly off with his voice and speech patterns from what was repeated for clarification.

One thing was certain to the other heroes, though.

Everything he had in the bag he came with was very American.

And not Japanese like they arrived with.

"Shield devil, what do you have to say for yourself? You have assaulted my daughter and have been suspicious since you arrived, I have so little faith in You that I would be throwing you in prison as we speak if not for protocol!"

"... *sigh* Pardon my Accent, sir, but whah would Ah do somethin so appalin' that my momma would ring me out like a dead hog if ah so much as thought abou' Id?"

Everyone in the room blinked at the thick drawling accent the shield hero had spoken with.

"... I'm sorry I don't thing I caught what you just said. Did you say your mother would... ring you out like a hog?"

"Yessir, Ah do believe that's what Ah done just said."

"... I am assuming you are from a very different world than your fellow heroes, then?"

"Ah mean yeah, probably. Granted, Ah also was raised by a couple from Texas an not in Japan, where ah was born. Kept th' name ah was given at birth, but raised on a ranch out in th sticks."

"... Great, we got ourselves a redneck don't we?"

"What is a Redneck, sir Ren?"

"It's a subculture of people from a country called America, mostly farmers and low income people living in extremely rural areas. They're known for comically practical "inventions" like using a motorized fan and a pair of pants to cool 2 people on bunk beds or a kind of adhesive strip called duct tape to keep broken things together. I mostly know of them through internet posts and rumors, I've never met one before."

"At least he's not from that Alabama place, it's jokingly called the inbreeding capital of the world." Motoyasu snorted, making some of the nobles gag.

"I see... and what does this have to do with the trial?"

"Now ya see, Mr King Sir, Ah Ain't exactly th type ta go after th ladies ya begin with if ya follow. And on top o that, ah got a pretty distinct set Uh tattoos an scars on mah body. Tell me lady, what's on mah chest an under mah ribs?"

"You have some kind of horrific demonic seal on your chest, and a snake right under your ribs!"

"Hold on, ah'll prove she's a Lyin' harlot in one sec..."

The mysterious Shield hero took off the shirt he was wearing from the inn and spread his arms, revealing a huge cow skull with guns, roses and barbed wire around it in the middle of his chest and a wicked pair of scars right under his ribs.

"Now, ya see, these here scars r from how ah died before ah came 'ere. Ah was in an event doin some bull Ridin an got gored when ah fell off. Th tattoo ah got ages ago when Ah won my first game. Any questions?"

"What is your name, strange shield?"

"Naofumi Iwatani-White, at yer service."

"Well, Sir Naofumi, given you have proven you are not the one who my daughter claims to be assaulted by, I will be letting you go. As an apology, you will be given an extra 200 silver to spend at your lesiure and a writ to obtain your gear from the guards. I would recommend finding a new partner, however, as Myne will not be allowed out of the palace until this has been resolved."

"Thank ya, yer majesty. Ah'll see y'all around then."

"One more thing before you leave, sir shield."

"Pardon?"

"No more hiding your voice, and try and lessen that strange accent of yours."

"Ha! No promises, but ah'll try mah best."
