The week was quite fast and tedious with all the practices, coach was really not taking it easy on practices. Saturday was our last practice before the game,which is next Tuesday. Coach loves his players mentally and physically prepared for the game,so we rest a day to the game. I was sitting in the balcony waiting for Daniel to pick me up for practice,stood up lazily as I heard screeching of tyres. Greeted Daniel with our handshake as I entered the car,he was still having hangover from last night party,it was a back to school party,he actually told me about it but I was so busy with research and assignment that I forgot about it. Am pretty sure he was still angry because the drive to school was uncomfortably silent.
Practice was really slow like the universe was preparing us for the worst,coach blew his whistle meaning the end of practice. We had a quick meeting and he released us to freshen up, Daniel was still not talking to me and I know I needed to end the silence. I barged into his bath space and asked
"So ya really not going to speak to me"
He just looked at me for a while and returned his gaze to the shower.
"I was so busy that I forgot and you called when I was already asleep,am sorry. I would do anything to make it up to you"
Hearing that,he raised his head and asked
"Really, anything?"
"Yea"I said, rethinking it
"Ok,I would think of something but you have to buy me a beer on our way home"
"Sure".
We stopped in front of the city most popular bar,it is also the oldest in the city. Daniel was quite popular in the bar as he was hailed almost immediately we stepped in,I walked straight to the counter and ordered a beer for him,I don't drink so I just bought coke. We walked to a table and sat,I stared outside as Daniel asked the weirdest question
"When are you going to get a girl?"
I was kind of shocked but am always prepared for Daniel's questions
"When you have A+ in calculus"I replied
He let out a soft chuckle and I laughed knowing that would probably be in the next life as calculus is his most dreaded subject.
"But am serious bro,this is our last year in high school and you are yet to have a girlfriend"
I was silent for a while cause I really had no excuse,until I felt Daniel's eyes bore into my skin.
"I don't know bro,maybe I would give this year a try"
"Yea,you should"
We left the bar really late and it was all Daniel fault,he was trying to patch me up with the waitresses which was really funny. Mum was in when I got home,greeted her as I walked upstairs
"You good Jeremy?"she asked
"Yea,am fine"I screamed from my room
I was not,lie face flat on my bed.

Tuesday finally came, school activities was suspended for the game. We have a game against the second best basketball team in the City, so coach was really worried. St. Georgia basketball team(the Eagles) are very proud,rude and arrogant,they have always being our rival for like two years now. The game started with Daniel scoring a point just five minutes into the game,second half was tough with both team giving their best. I had the chance to get the ball and i dunk it into the hoop,I was really surprised that I scored a point,I was cheered but the game was getting tough. Both teams had a tie and we needed a tie breaker,the game was actually over but we were given extra time to have a tie breaker,I got the ball and passed it to Kelvin,he targeted the hoop but he missed. Coach was already pacing aimlessly in the court,the tension was top notch and I can see the frowns on the Eagles faces,we have never had any close scores like this and I know fear when I see it. Surprisingly, the ball was with our assistant captain,he just dunked it into the hoop and that was the tie breaker we need. Cheers echoing through the court,we were so excited as we lifted him up and celebrated. Coach was literally crying like he was just so happy,we all settled after our victory dance and listened as coach promised us a drink later in the evening. I watched as the Eagles walked out of the court with disappointed looks,am sure they were not expecting it. I noticed a new face with a lost look,she was looking confused and lost in the court,she finally walked up to some group of girls and asked for directions,she caught me staring at her and she smiled,I was caught off guard but I managed to smile back. After she left the court,I concluded that she must be a new student judging by the lost look I saw earlier.

The hangout later that evening with the team was so fun, Daniel had dropped me home after school to freshen up and picked me up by 5pm for the hangout. We all met at the City most popular bar,coach left us at the bar with the excuse that he has to be home for dinner but we all knew he was already drunk and he was not ready to admit it. We laughed as we joked about finding coach sleeping in the basketball court the following morning. Daniel dropped me off few minutes after 10pm and yes,I am few minutes past my curfew and yes too I have a curfew. I walked into the house lazily,mum was sitting on the stairs,she just looked up at me, walked up to me and pat my head. I smiled and we walked up the stairs together,she kissed me goodnight and walked to her room. Making soft thud as I hit the bed,staring at the ceiling and remembered the pretty face I saw in the court today,closed my eyes and smiled.
