Chapter 9

 The next day Janice and Clara met at the end of the secret passage way.

 "Guess what! I got Cameron's number yesterday!" says Janice the second she sees Clara.

 "Cool!" says Clara, slightly sad she hadn't gotten Nate's.

 "Nate gave me his to give to you too. You left before he had the chance to ask for yours."

 "Thanks so much! Your a life saver."

 "So you do like him...?" asks Janice sassily.

 "I guess so, he's really cute and I think he likes me." replies Clara, "Why?"

 "Just wondering, he said you kept looking at him and you tried to hold his hand..."

 "I DID NOT!"

 "Okay, okay. That's just what he said."

 "Well he's wrong." replies Clara sternly.

 The rest of the day Janice was acting all weird. She kept texting Nate and saying how much she liked him and that they were going to date. Clara thought it was weird, they'd only met yesterday. How would they be in 'love'?

 After school everyone went over to Janice's house again. Her house was pretty big and nice so it was the perfect hangout place. Nate gave Janice a few glances and smiles and didn't pay much attention to Clara. Cameron and Janice talked, but not as much as Janice and Nate. That's weird, thought Clara, Janice likes Cameron not Nate...

 Clara left earlier than the day before because she was getting tired of Nate talking to Janice and not her. When Clara got home she text Nate to see if he liked Janice. He said he didn't, that he liked her. Clara got butterflies in her stomach. He likes me... she thought.

  And it continued on like that. They all went to Janice's after school, Nate talked to Janice almost the whole time then text Clara afterwards. Janice was supposedly dating Cameron and text him every night. Clara thought it was weird that they talked even though they weren't dating, and that Janice talked to Nate, the guy she liked. But she decided not to worry, after all, he did say that he liked her, so he probably did.

 Nate and Clara started dating a week later. Nate asked her out over text and Clara replied with a yes, but they still didn't talk as much as Nate talked to Janice. They still hang out at Janice's house after school on most days, but Janice hung out with Nate and Clara hung out with Cameron. Clara wished Nate would talk to her more, instead of Janice. I guess that's just the way the world works. I'm always a second option, Clara thought.

 After a week Clara finally decided to confront Nate about not talking to her. He said he's always busy at school and only has time to text her afterwards, but that he still loves her. He also said that they should "keep them dating a secret". And Clara agreed. She didn't want the teachers to find out and separate them.

  When Clara told Janice that her and Nate 'broke up', she seemed kind of happy. She didn't seem like she cared about how hurt Clara was that he didn't talk to her. After school Clara and Cameron didn't go to Janice's house because they decided to go somewhere else together. Cameron invited her to go to his house and watch movies and talk about school.

 Cameron's house was about a fifteen minute walk from the school so they had time to be alone while they were walking there.

 "Me and Janice aren't dating anymore..." Cameron said.

 "Really?" said Clara, "Why?"

 "She said it just wasn't working out anymore. Hey, I heard Janice setup Nate and Alissa, they're dating now."

 "What? I'm dating Nate!" replied Clara fuming.

 "He said you guys broke up. I thought that was why Janice broke up with me, to date Nate."

 "Well, now Alissa and Nate are dating. At the same time that me and Nate are dating. And Janice and him might have a little something going on." replied Clara, "I think we should find out what's going on."

 "Should we ask Janice?"

 "No! She might be the 'bad guy'. She set Alissa and Nate up."

 "But she thought you guys broke up."

 "Still! She would never do that. She knows that me and Alissa hate each other. Plus, I think she likes Nate too."

 "We need to keep an eye on them. Something isn't right here."

 "I know. And I'm gonna get to the bottom of it."

 The next day at school Cameron keeps an eye on Nate and Clara keeps an eye on Janice. Cameron notices that Nate acts weird every time they pass Janice, Clara, or Alissa in the hallway. Cameron asked Alissa who she's dating and she said she isn't dating anyone, but he knows she's lying. Clara asked Janice if her and Cameron were still dating and she said yes, but Clara knows she's lying.

 After school Nate and Janice  go to Janice's house and 'hangout', but Clara and Cameron follow them and see what they're really doing. They look through the window and see Janice and Nate watching movies together on the couch holding hands. Then they see Janice turn and kiss Nate and they duck down and leave. They'd seen enough. They walk to Cameron's house to hangout.

 "Well that was lame," said Cameron, "Janice really is a bad person."

 "I know how to make them pay." said Clara menacingly.

  And as they walked to Cameron's house they started plotting their revenge.
