Clara and Alissa's parents owned a huge, successful company together. They made thousands of dollars each month. Clara's mother and father would take the girls out for ice cream or to the park everyday after school. They would go out and buy cute matching outfits and shoes and they both liked the same things. They had the same favorite color, the same sense of style, and the same taste in boys. But this wasn't a problem at the time, they were only kids, boys didn't matter.
Their parents got into a huge argument about what portions of the company were theirs and Alissa's family sued Clara's family. Clara's family lost their house and almost everything else. Clara's parents got divorced and her dad moved countries so she never sees him anymore. Her mom had to get a new job that doesn't pay nearly enough for the amount of hours she works. Clara and her mom just barely get by and Clara barely ever gets new clothes or furniture.
Clara's mom told Clara it was all Alissa's family's fault and now the two girls hate each other. They have hated each other for four years now, Alissa has started rumors about Clara saying she steals all her clothes and shoes from stores because her mom can't afford it. When in reality, Clara has to work at a small diner on the outskirts of the city to get the money for the things she needs. She has to walk there and back almost everyday except Sundays and Tuesdays. She doesn't work for very many hours and they have little service, but it's just enough to get her by.
Alissa's family is well off. They get whatever they want. They makes thousand and thousands of dollars each month and Alissa has almost everything she would ever want. She has all the latest clothes and shoes in every color and style. She doesn't even wear most of them, she just buys them so other people can't.
Clara and Alissa aren't friends anymore. The only time they talk is when Alissa bullies her. Alissa does everything she can to make sure nobody likes Clara. Alissa is the most popular girl in school and almost everyone believes the things she says about Clara. Clara doesn't have any friends. Everyone always makes fun of her for what happened and they say that her parents should be in jail and other bad things. Clara tries to ignore it but sometimes she can't.
Clara cries herself to sleep most nights because the kids at school are so mean to her. No matter what she does or how nice she tries to be everyone tries to avoid her as much as possible. Who would want to be seen with the daughter of 'criminals'? Nobody. The only true friend she's ever had was Alissa and their friendship is gone now, and Alissa doesn't care.
