I walked to the club, the hum of Billies engine decreasing as she drove away. Inside, I went straight to the back room. I knocked twice, the door swung open soon after.

I stepped inside, sucking up all of the familiarity. The dim lighting made the dark pink walls look purple — almost magenta. Music was bumping from different speakers around the room.

The air was heavy with the smell of perfume. Vanity mirrors aligned the walls, all decorated to showcase the girls individuality.

Some girls where lying on the cheetah-print couches, others sat in chairs, stood by their locker, or practiced on one of the two poles in the back.

I spotted Jazmine at her vanity, rolling herself a blunt. "Hey Jaz." I said, placing a light kiss on her cheek. She smiled, "Hey mama."

"Everything alright?" She asked, licking her tongue across the rolling paper.

"Car wouldn't start this morning." I explained. I looked inside my bag and pulled out whatever outfit I saw first. "Did Xan come in today?"

"She's on stage. Should be back in a few minutes."

She open every draw on her vanity, looking through the piles of makeup, bottles, hairspray, etc. "Fuck." She cursed, slamming the drawers shut. She jumped up from her seat, "Ella did you take my lighter?!" She yelled, walking to the back.

I followed behind her, making my way to dressing rooms. I closed the curtains behind me, stripping all my clothes before putting on my outfit; a hot pink bikini top with star cutouts to cover my nipples and the thong to match.

After taking a good look at myself in the mirror, I gathered my belongings. A familiar face greeted me the moment I pulled back the curtain.

Xan aka Alexandra, my bestfriend.

Her skin was warm and her hair was thick and curly. It fell over her eyes and hugged her faced, stopping just below her cheeks. Her eyes were dark, lashes long. Lips plump and covered in gloss.

And her dimples were noticeable, although she wasn't smiling. I've always adored that about her.

Xan and I started working at the club on the same day. As newbies, we were drawn to each other and we've become extremely close ever since.

She's like my other half. She's the bad to my good and I'm the good to her bad. We're interdependent when it comes to one another and I think that's why we complement each other so well.

It's only been three years but it feels like an eternity. And I'm most certain we've known each other in a past life.

"You finally made it." She said. "For a second I thought you weren't coming."

She gave me her hand, helping me step down from the dressing rooms, that were on a platform. I went over to my locker to put my things away. "Did you get your car to start?"

"No, I had to get a ride." I said, shutting the metal door. "From who?" She asked. I glanced at her before walking off to my vanity.

"Was it that chick you're talking to?"

I sighed, "Yes, Xan." I sat at my vanity and flipped the switch on the side of the table, turning on the lights. "You haven't really told me about her."

She grabbed Jaz's chair and sat it next to me. "Older or younger?" She asked. "Cannot conform but definitely older." I said, taking my hair out of the bun, my braids falling down my back.

"Tall or short?" She said, running her fingers through the ends of my hair. "Tall enough."

"So far so good."

I pulled my braids into a high ponytail, leaving two strands out in the front to add a little spice.

She tilted her head to the side, "She hot?"

"Mhm." I hummed. I unwrapped my scarf from around my head, a satisfied sigh escaping my lips when I saw my edges laid exactly how I placed them.

"Black hair, blue eyes, amazing jawline" I said.

I pulled out my makeup bag and touch up a few things. I brushed my lashes out, applied some highlighter on the bridge and tip of my nose, and dapped on some more lipgloss.

"How long have you known her?"

"Like a month and a half." I said, shrugging my shoulders. "Damn, it's been a month already." She whispered to herself, furrowing her brows.

She tapped her nails on her thigh, thinking of what to ask next. Xan is very inquisitive. She'll ask you questions until you can't respond anymore. Especially if she's truly intrigued.

"Have y'all gone out recently?"

"Nah. It's been a few weeks." I said. I looked in the mirror, staring at my outfit. I adjusted the straps, fixing the star cutouts.

"Y'know, I kinda want her to come back to the club." I mentioned. She straightened up, confusion plastered on her face, "Wait she's been here?"

I gave her a blank stare, "Xan we've been over this. This is where we meet, remember." I said, rolling my eyes, "You and your shitty memory."

"Aye, not too much." She said in defense.

Jaz came over, "Y'all want a hit?" She asked, offering her blunt. "Is that even a question?" I said as I sat up. I took a hit and so did Xan.

We sat around and talked for a bit. Our club manager, Jade, came in soon after. Jade's like a mom to us. She keeps the club running and takes care of us all at the same time.

"Hey, Nai. Glad you and it in." She said, scribbling something's on a clipboard. She checked her phone, "We need you out there like right now."

"Jaz, please go to the back with that." She said waving her arms, shooing Jazmine away.

I said my goodbyes to Xan and followed Jade out the door. She afford me a small cup a water, something she always does before we go on stage.

"Center stage." She said, taking the cup after I took a few sips. I nodded, walking out into the crowd of people. It's a full house and I'm center stage? I'm making bank tonight.
