I sat in my office, searching for my journal in a pile of papers. I've taken some time off this past week and today is my first day getting back to work.
Lightening my workload has been one of the best decisions I've made recently. I might be behind on a few things but I find my days to be more enjoyable now that I'm not burnt out all the time.
But as much as I loved taking advantage of this time, I can't put work on a complete hold. I plan to to get something done today, even if it's just paperwork.
I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. I pulled it out and saw Naomi's name displayed on the screen. Naomi and I haven't talked since Saturday and I can already tell how this is going to go.
...
"Hello."
"Hey, Bil."
"Hey."
"I hope I'm not bothering you."
"Nah, you're good."
"Good, that's good."
"Um, I called you because I wanted to talk.""About?"
"About last weekend."
"..."
"Bil?"
"Uhh, w-what about last weekend?"
"I was wondering if you wanted a redo.
You kinda disappeared and we
didn't get to see each other.""Yeah I'm sorry about that but
we can meet up whenever, I'm down with that.""What about tonight? We could
get some food and maybe a few drinks.""Sounds good to me."
"Great. I'll text you the details later."
...
I hung up the phone and sighed.
It's been a week since that night at the club. I've put the situation behind me but there's no telling how long Naomi's been thinking about it.
I know I have a habit of avoiding my problems but I never meant for her to have to address the situation when I should be the one doing that.
I have to make it up to her.
I looked at myself in the mirror one last time.
Hair tucked behind my ear, lots of jewelry, freshly steamed white button up, khaki cargos sitting just below my waist, and a new pair of white sneakers.
It was 8:30pm and I plan to be home before 10:0o o'clock. I drove my black challenger to the restaurant Naomi wanted to meet at.
I noticed her the second I entered the room. She sat at a table, sipping on a drink. Her hair was styled in a curly fro. She wore a black off the shoulder dress with cut outs down the sides.
She noticed me when I got close to the table. "Hey, stranger." She said, getting up from her chair. I smiled at her comment, "Very funny."
