Let me just preface, I absolutely hate that there is so little about the Romany/Romani language on the internet. I can find Yiddish, Russian, Hebrew, and all sorts, but I can barely find anything on Gypsy languages. I like using dialogue as these characters would in their foreign tongue, as you can probably tell at this point because it feels more authentic. So, I am sorry about the inconsistency. I have no choice but to use English dialogue when referring to Romany/Romani speech. I do hope you enjoy though. Much love!

"The priest is in the house," Freya struggled to say in Romani.

There were two guards walking behind Tommy and Freya as Tatiana led the way through the house. Tommy's eyes managed to move subtly across the floor as he followed the Duchess into the foyer where she made a left down the long corridor which connected the front door to the back.

"Are you sure?" he replied in a mumble of Gypsy tongue.

"That's why I was called away-"

"There wouldn't be a reason for anyone to be speaking the language of the witch now, is there?" Tatiana interrupted, stopping in her tracks and turning over her shoulder.

Her eyes went to Freya's first as she was the one to begin speaking. She hated the way Tatiana acted as if nothing truly fazed her, it made her seem less human, it made her seem untouchable and soulless.

"Of course not," Freya commented. "I just felt uncomfortable talking about the debts owed in front of a Duchess before the adults were present..." Freya spoke solemnly but her words were teasing and ridiculing.

She could feel the disappointment radiate from Tommy before she saw him shift his position.

"I apologize for my sister's sarcasm," Tommy began. "She's had a bit too much vodka, it seems." He raised his eyebrows and hoped she could take the hint to remain quiet.

She did, and after Tatiana smirked at Freya for being so blunt and brazen, she continued to lead them upstairs where Freya smiled victoriously.

She had physically seen more of the house than any of her brother's and when she told them she believed the vault to be hidden on the second story, nobody wanted to put their faith in her notion. However, Tatiana showed them into a room, the first door on the right, and all Freya could do was relish in the look of surprise on Tommy's face as he was shown to the entrance of the vault.

He gave Freya a look of warning and unwilling congratulations but she knew better than to take it for granted. She didn't look for more in him and removed the look of satisfaction from her face before the men behind them could seal them inside.

The room had walls of stone that were neatly plastered in even rows until they reached the ceiling which matched most of the other parts of the manor. The floors were not shined or glossy but they were the same marble floorings in the dining hall, the drawing room, and all the hallways. It was missing texture but it wouldn't matter as long as unwelcomed guests were kept out.

"This treasury was built two hundred years ago to protect the King's jewels in case of French invasion," Tatiana informed them, moving for another door further inside which led to a set of stairs.

She walked ahead of them, taking her time with each step to make sure the Sheblys knew she was calm. If she moved hastily, if she slipped, or if she moved too slowly, they would think she was nervous or not confident in her hold of power.

Freya followed behind Tatiana, keeping her eyes moving around Tatiana and their new environment as Tommy followed behind his sister and kept his ears peeled for sudden sounds of violence.
