Kaede Can't Communicate

Shuichi's POV

The teacher had informed us to make notes as what to bring tomorrow, but everyone wasn't listening. Instead, their attention was focused on Akamatsu-san. I mean, she's really pretty, so........

Her eraser suddenly fell from her desk, and as I am the closest to her, I picked it up before anyone else can do so.

"Um, you dropped your eraser....." I muttered. She looked at it, but said nothing. Instead, she started trembling, which sent shivers down my spine.

As I have said before, I'm Shuichi Saihara. I just started high school, and my goal is to not create any waves.

I'm normal in every way, so it's the perfect objective for-

A crowd of students rushed past me and gathered around Akamatsu-san's desk.

........that's how it's probably supposed to be.

"Alright class, gather at the gym please!" I heard the teacher say, before I blacked out on my desk.

Third person POV

Shuichi woke up about half an hour later. "I was asleep? Wait, a voice? DANG IT, I FORGOT TO GO TO THE GYM!"

"Meow~"

Shuichi realized that the sound was coming from Kaede.

"Oh, um.....I totally...didn't hear anything......."

Kaede got up and walked towards the door.

"What the- Wait!" Shuichi called out. "Oh no......I literally heard her say meow but lied that I didn't hear anything. This is going to leave a scar in my life!"

He recalled what happened in the past. Trembling like she's afraid of something, hardly getting a word out of her mouth.....is she.......

"Akamatsu-san, are you......bad at communicating?"

Why did I even say that?  Shuichi thought. She's the school idol! My bad, totally bad!

Kaede started trembling again, and started stuttering some words (sounds?) out of her mouth. "H-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-" 

"I get it now. Are you really bad at speaking? So, what were you trying to say? Can we possibly communicate somehow?"

Kaede stared at the blackboard in front of her. "That's right! Maybe we could try writing on the blackboard!" Shuichi said.

Kaede scribbled a sentence on the blackboard.

"How did you know that I'm bad at communicating?"

"Huh? I just sensed it. Well, hasn't anyone else ever noticed?"

"No."

"Oh, um, really?" Shuichi said, a bit embarrassed that they've run out of stuff to talk about. "W-we're supposed to be at the gym! So I better get going!"

"Wait."

Kaede wrote something else on the blackboard. "I couldn't finish my lunch."

"So you're hungry?"

"Actually, I want to talk."

"I get nervous in front of people, but my face freezes up and I get scared."

"People get uneasy around me. Or they run away, pass out, or kneel and bow. I think they hate me since I'm so difficult to talk to."

She's got it so wrong.....  Shuichi thought.
