When Amane and Hanako-san arrived to the rooftop, there was barely anyone. A single student was standing by the the railguards taking some pictures of the view.
"He probably won't bother us," whispered Amane. They sat with Hanako in the shadow to read youth magazine Amane brought with him.
Amane was excited to read an article about black holes and how they wrap timespace around them, but Hanako-san found such topics boring.
"It is not boring!" argued Amane, "The world is a wonderful place we don't know so much about. I wonder what's happening behind horizon of the black hole. They say it can break rules of physics; you could go back in time and meet someone long gone. Neat, is not it?"
"It's not like you can travel to a black hole to check..." answered Hanako-san.
"Speaking of black holes," Amane moved closer to Hanako-san. "Gravity of your ankles is pulling me in... I can't help it!" he fell through Hanako-san onto the ground. "Aw, come on! I just wanted to hug you! Let me hug you! Please?"
Hanako-san was pouting and did not want to talk to him.
"What are you doing?" they heard a young voice. Amane looked up.
It was a boy his age in the summer unifrom. His hair were dyed pink and covered half of the face. Pink sweater was tied around his belt. He was holding an old camera.
"Just... reading a magazine?" Amane replied, sitting up. He should pretend that Hanako is not here.
"You were speaking to yourself, Yugi-kun," the young boy replied.
"Do you know me?" Amane was surprised.
"Of course I do! We are in the same class. You and your brother are sitting in front of me."
"I'm sorry!" Amane's cheeks were burning. "What's your name again?"
"I'm Sousuke Mitsuba," replied the boy. "Nice to meet you!"
When they shook hands, something strange happened.
Mitsuba's eyes widened. "Who is this? And why is she... transparent?"
Hanako-san and Amane were both surprised Mitsuba could see her.
Amane could see Hanako-san because they were tied by the magic of mermaid scale. Tsukasa could see Hanako because he summoned her and has not yet fulfilled a wish. But a stranger such as Mitsuba should not be able to see the ghost. Yet he did.
Mitsuba raised his camera and took several pictures.
"Is she... gone? What was that?"
"Ummm... nothing! I'm sure it was nothing!" Amane rushed to convince his classmate.
Hanako-san waved her hand in front of boy. He seemed to no longer see her.
"Oh... I get it!" brightened Mitsuba. "This is the person you were chatting and messing with! But how comes she's invisible? Is she... a ghost?"
"What do you mean? I was just reading the magazine alone."
"Don't make a fool of me! I took several pictures of you talking and fighting with air."
Oops.
"A-anyway, do you want to read magazine with me?" Amane rushed to change topic.
Surprisingly, Mitsuba agreed. Two boys were sitting next to each other with invisible Hanako-san between them.
"So, you are interested in astronomy?" asked Mitsuba.
"Yes! In this article they talk about black holes—"
"Pffft!" Mitsuba could barely hold his laughter.
"What's so funny?" Amane asked.
"Black... Ahahahahaa! You... pervert!"
It took a second for Amane to get it.
"Dumbass! It's a term for an ultra heavy star!" Amane was beating Mitsuba with his magazine.
"Still not as heavy as... your mom!" Mitsuba kept laughing.
"Listen, you little..." Amane grabbed Mitsuba by the hand, when it happened again. Mitsuba's eyes rounded.
"Eeeek! I'm sorry! I'm sorry! Please don't kill me, ghost lady!"
It turned out Mitsuba was able to see Hanako-san while holding hands with Amane.
Amane was happy to make a new friend, and so was Sousuke. The boys did share a lot in common. They were both geeks with weird interests, and they were both outcasts with no friends and both were bullied. They shared a crude sense of humor.
Hanako-san accepted a new friend on the terms he would stop calling her daikon-senpai.
Tsukasa suggested a way Sousuke could see Hanako-san at all times. He would have to go to boys' toilet and summon her. It worked.
