Minamoto's Misadventures

"What do you think?" Sousuke was holding candies.

Yokoo and Satou looked surprised.

"What do you mean?" "Will you give them to us?"

"Ah! It's good you are back to normal," Sousuke was relieved. Yesterday the school was overrun by infected Mokke. His friends attempted to lick and eat him because they thought he was a candy. "I know I'm sweet but I'm not candy!" he recalled telling them.

"We need 4th member for our team project," reminded Satou. "Whom should we invite?"

Sousuke's thoughts jumped back to his former classmate... Minamoto-kun.

"Booored..." declared Minamoto-kun. "I'm so bored!"

He got to know the broadcasting team over the last few days. Natsuhiko was always occupied preparing surprise gifts to his lady, Aoi. Nanamine preferred to read a book in a corner. Every now and then Natsuhiko would announce a new weird rumor via school announcement system. The room they were in was not normal; there were creepy spirit eyes and ears floating at the ceiling. It must have been a boundary. Minamoto could access the room using a mirror on the wall.

"Why don't you go play outside?" suggested Natsuhiko. "We are in the middle of something important right now."

"What are you doing, Natsuhiko-senpai?" asked Minamoto.

"Shh! It's a secret."

"I see. One of his plots to surprise his lady," decided Minamoto.

So he set out to go around the school and find anything interesting to do. He was wearing an illusion of his normal school appearance during his lifetime.

Exorcise some evil spirits! That would cheer him up.

Minamoto looked around and saw some Mokke trading candies in the corner.

"Candy! Here, have some candy!" Mokke circled around him.

Minamoto took a candy. He clenched his fist and then stopped. "I should not exorcise these ones. They are not evil."

Minamoto encountered Tsuchigomori-sensei and asked if he needed an assistant. "Sure. An assistant and an emergency snack," replied sensei.

"That's it! If he eats children, he must be evil," thought Minamoto. "But I cannot exorcise him... he's a school teacher after all."

"Stop calling me fox!" yelled Yako, biting Minamoto's hand.

"But... you are a fox?" Minamoto was confused.

"My name is Yako!" she bit his head.

"This one was on me," thought Minamoto. "I should not have disrespected the fox."

Minamoto found a houseplant with human face in the school practice garden. "Let's couple up everyone in the school!" it explained.

"That sounds fun. Let's do it!" agreed Minamoto. "What do I need to do?"

"You need to change my rumor. They say, there's a hidden plant in the practice garden. If you manage to find it, you will surely be lucky in love."

Minamoto tried to talk to students, but they were unable to see or hear him, and his hand went through them.

Student council president, Akane Aoi, was able to see Minamoto. He gave him disapproving look.

"What's up with that guy?" thought Minamoto.

Then Minamoto encountered a tall high school student. His hair was blond and spiky, just like his own. He was wearing an armband reading "student council". And he carried a sheathed sword. Minamoto's eyes widened.

"Teru-nii?.."

"Kou?" Teru froze in his place.

"Teru... I don't remember how I died, and I don't have any memories of my life, but—"

"No. This is not you," Teru's eyes narrowed. "You are wearing my brother's face, but you are not him."

"Teru! This is me!"

"You are a monster from the world of the dead, seeking a place among the living. This is wrong. Why don't you see it?"

Teru raised his sword, preparing to thrust Kou, when the speakers on the wall went live. It was Nanamine speaking.

"Big news everyone! Vice-president Minamoto is hosting an interview in the old school building regarding accusations of sexual harassment. Exclusive and live right now!"

Students looked surprised. "Live interview?" "Sexual harassment?" "Let's see what this is about." Soon the place became crowded. Teru could not proceed to exorcise a spirit in front of this many people. Kou used this moment to run away to the broadcasting room.

The room was dark. Then lights lit up.

"Surprise!" the broadcasting team yelled.

The room was decorated for a party. Colorful letters read, "Welcome, Minamoto-kun!" This was the surprise party Natsuhiko and Nanamine were preparing to celebrate his addition to the team.

"This is cool!" Minamoto was excited.

There were balloons with eyes painted on them, and a table served with a lot of food.

"You should have told me," said Minamoto. "I would have helped with the cooking."

"I'm sorry, kouhai, Nanamine told me we should make preparations in secret," replied Natsuhiko.

"And I brought something nice for you too, Minamoto-kun," said Aoi. She introduced a new ghost girl. "Mei-chan, school mystery №4."
