When you're naming your fic, you want the title to be interesting, to draw people in. You don't want it to be generic or something they've seen a million times.

I've come to the conclusion that fanfic names have 3 categories:

1. The Song Titles

This doesn't have to be necessarily bad, I have a few fics in my drafts that have song names as their titles. The problem I see with these usually is that people use the same names ALL THE TIME.

Like if I see a book called "Born To Die" I probably won't click on it because it has the same name as a thousand other fics on here.

You also want your name to fit the actual book. Like if you call it "Born To Die" and your main character doesn't come close to dying at least once, it probably isn't the correct name for your fic.

An example of this type of fic is Love and War by arios2004. The name is derived from a song and it actually fits the plot and the overall story very well.

2. The Generic Names

Have you ever come across a fic that was named something like "The Other ____ Girl"? Cause I have, and I hate it. The only reason I would accept this is if your fic is about The Other Boleyn Girl but considering it most likely isn't, it's a big no from me.

Other generic names are like "the *insert color* princess/rose/queen" which I personally dislike because there's nothing creative about the name really. You just take a color and slap it onto the title and you're done with it.

Just no. I've also seen stuff like "the forgotten *insert house* princess" and I despise those even more.

Just take some time to brainstorm ideas. I know it may seem difficult but I promise you that there are many names you could come up with.

And that leads me to the last category.

3. The names that have me gripping my sheets

These are the names that are amazing beyond ANY measure. You can tell the author sat down and thought about it for longer than ten minutes. I see those books and I will click on them without hesitation because they are amazing.

Here are a few examples that have brought me back from the dead (they aren't all TWQ):

Edge of Desire by my bestie teaandcrumpets05

Rotted Tradition by montjoys

Break of Dawn by xanderherondale

Lion Astray by casterlyrocks

There are a lot more but these are the ones that came to mind first.

Anyways, once again these are just suggestions!
